Oh I'm doin' fine actually hun...believe me I know what you mean, although I haven't had trouble with my printer lately ( mmainly because its been dis-connected since...oh Aug. or Sept. My favourite is "Outlook Express cannot be opened at this time because another instance of it is currently running..." or something to that effect. (?*^%#!?*rolls eyes & tries to keep from throttling the monitor because 1, I'd only hurt my hand & 2, I'd probably wake the nneighbour who does shift-work.

I've had that error with outlook express. Had to run the disk cleanup utility to convince the computer that Outlook express was not running once, let alone twice.
My favorite error message so far... "the sound card is not installed", which was accompanied by a loud error *chime*.
But, officer, the computer was asking for it...

My printer stopped working two or three years ago. When I need to print something, I cut and paste it into a Word file, then download the Word file into a diskette. I bring the diskette to the Public Library, and print it out from the word processor there.
(Looks at the adage above the subject line: "Since people have two ears and only one mouth, you should listen twice as much as you talk...")
Okay, I have an adage, too: "Since people have two kidneys and one bladder, you should not drink too much coffee just before sitting down at the computer for the whole evening."

I do a lot of graphics and digital photos, so the printer is a necessity.
The adage is a quote from "Sharpe's Rifles".
Another of my I.D.s has a Mark Twain quote as a forum intro: It is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Kind of a subtle way of saying... or more accurately . Could still use a few more adages along those lines, if you have any suggestions.
Usually, I drink or
while spending time at the computer.

I think error messages are pretty much a never-ending story, at least in my case. Me + computer = error messages...oh & once you fight your way past those, some useful stuff too!

My other computer had a recurring "kernel 32" error message. Kind of made me consider open tower surgery after a while...

For awhile there, every few days it was "Improper Shutdown Detected", which eventually had me thinking "Improper shutdown, improper shutdown...let me get that 50 pound sledge & I'll show you a TRuly improper shutdown!!"

This may sound really bizarre...
For a while, there was a particular group of researchers that I posted the most with, individually and as a group. I could spend all day posting to any one or two of the individuals in that group. The minute all five of us were online at the same time, our computers and ISPs would take turns restarting, or shutting down.
There is a default setting in McAfee that will restart your computer if an improper script is detected on a web page. The first day of the new DNA platform my computer restarted four times before I found that box, unticked said box, and turned off McAfee.

My other computer would do that a bit too often, even when it was new. So far, this computer hasn't done the mysterious restart and it's over a year old. I've always suspected the other computer didn't have enough ram.
Do you run the disk cleanup often? Have you ever run the disk defragment program?

Mine inexplicably shuts down for no apparent reason. I used to get a phone call or whatever, leave the computer for 45 min or so, come back & the slightest pressure on the mouse-Boom, back in business, like I'd never left. Now, sometimes (not always) if I'm away much more than 15-20 minutes, I've got to completely restart becuase its decided to shut down!

Try this: Settings, control panel, power options. In the power options window there are settings of how long to leave the computer idle before it shuts itself off to save power.

Was ok thanks. Monday, like you say...but you can't usually get to Thursday & Friday without havin' a Mon. or Tues. right? Otherwise it was pretty uneventful. The reason I mention Thursday, is because we're having a great duo at the club that sold out 2 nights last year, so we've got them in for 3 this time (Thurs., Fri., & Sat.).

It's refreshing to read posts where you don't have to decipher the Thingite names for the days of the week. Those names always confuse me.

Yeah it is I suppose, hun!
How's your day goin? I was out to a local hairstyling school this morning to have my hair & beard trimmed up. It's in the area herre & I figure they can use a real person now & then...you can only do so many of those mannequin heads. Reasonable price too - $11 for hair & beard, that includes a shampoo & cconditioner...& final inspection by an instructor.
Fairly overcast, pale blue-grey sky...bit of blue sky pokin' through in the nortrh west...actually, glancin' out the window I see it's nice & clear to the east ...some cloud, but nice & sunny.

Hi, Jazz
My day still felt like Monday. Ah, well it's over now, except for the housework.
That is a nice deal for a shampoo, condition, cut etc. I really should have my hair cut.
Our weather is bright, windy, and mild temperature. The bad news is: I had to be indoors most of the day.
Key: Complain about this post
