But Pierce's point was about women's not *wanting* to drive. They might be good drivers, but don't enjoy driving. There's no shame in that. I don't like driving either.

Maybe, maybe not, Jab. Pierce was apparently talking about a few specific women, not all women. I personally would rather not generalize about women.
Gender issues are getting more complicated than they used to be. Pakistan, for instance, has created a third gender, which consists of transgendered people and eunuchs. Even at the Olympics, there have been a few cases where athletes thought they were one gender, but subsequent tests established that they were genetically of another. The pronoun "they" has been brought back in its singular form to avoid the awkward "he or she." I say brought back, because it used to be singular as well as plural, just as "you" was and is.

were pretty smart at that time. My grandmother would tell stories about when she was a little girl, and her father with put the whole family in a horse-drawn carriage for a trip into the Catskills. On the trip back, there was no need to tell the horses to go home. They knew where home was, and headed right for it.

Gracious, that most have been a fairly long trip! How many days did it take them to get there by carriage?

They lived fairly close. They would ride up on a Sunday morning or afternoon, and the horses would find their way bach home late at night.

Most horses were apparently sober, though not all were wise.

I saw Horsen Wells last night!
Well, not exactly. The movie was called "Me and Orson," and it was based on a novel about a high school senior who wangled his way into a production of "Caesar" at the Mercury Theater in 1937. The show starred Orson Wells, played by Christian McKay. The kid was played by Zac Efron, who became famous for "High School Musical" and "17 Again." I thought everyone did a good job.

He was very quotable. he said, "Gluttony is not a secret vice." Can't argue with that one.

Another time, Wells said that his doctor said it was okay to have an intimate dinner for four as long as there were three other people there to help eat the food.
