common sense?
Posted Jun 22, 2008
So Gordon Brown has flown out to Saudi to try and talk about more oil....just a minute..isn't the price of petrol so high in this country because of the tax on it?
Instead of using more fuel and running up the carbon footprint by flying out there wouldn't it be more sense to cut the fuel tax by 5p a litre?
In fact MP's could turn down their £40,000 pound pay rise and the money saved would off set the cut in fuel tax.
Once fuel is cheaper ...transporting food would be cheaper and the prices should drop......seems like common sense to me.
How can they justify £40000 pay rise? Where I live the average pay is £12,000 to £15,000 a year. People are struggling to pay for basic things and MP's complain about wanting more money. They are supposed to represent the people.Maybe it is time they all had a job appraisal..let's see now:
Failure to combat rising crime
Failure to provide affordable housing
Failure to combat poverty
Failure to keep down inflation
Need I go on?..They would be sacked or sent for re-training if they were working in industry.Certainly be told to pull their socks up and set deadlines to achieve goals. They wouldn't get a pay rise that is for sure.
Maybe I am being too simplistic....or maybe the trouble is everything is so bound up in bureaucracy that no one can see the simple solutions anymore.
Thats my rant for the week
Otherwise apart from the very windy weather and the rain ,it's been a quiet Sunday.
to all. Have a good week

wearing in
Posted Jun 18, 2008
I hate wearing in shoes. I have 3 pairs at the moment all discarded for being so hard on the feet. I need to wear at least one pair in as my favourites are dropping to bits. So I shall limp about today and hope one pair starts to wear in...it's either that or cut off a couple of toes.....
It's raining again....on the bright side I don't have to water the plants....but also I can't go out or hang out the washing.
I am going to have to re-plant some lettuce. It rained that hard the seedlings got washed away.
I saw a solicitor last week about my work situation. He was a very dapper young man, that Roy would have called "camp" but....he was a shark. He knew his stuff. Appearances can be deceptiveI have passed on his words to personnel...I await their reply with interest
I am still struggling on the reduced medication but determined to stick it out if I can so I can have the tests done
Otherwise apart from the cat in the night ...Baggins didn't come home until 1.30am the night before last and woke up the whole road digging at the door to be in....it's all quiet chez Tabs.
to all, Have a good day.

what a waste of public money
Posted Jun 11, 2008
Before Xmas I bought new TV. The old one was still working but not up to the digital challenge really. So we got a 20" Tv with DVD player and video player ensemble. The picture was very clear compared to the old set...and no it wasn't because the other set had a layer of dust on it..it was remarkably clearer
Anyway I got a letter from Tv licensing saying you have bought a TV and don't have a licence at that address. I pointed out in my reply that I had been a license payer since 1977 ,in the same name ,at various addresses and yes I did have a licence evidence enclosed.
Then we had to get a new digi box as the other one, now 8 years old, expired(probably the shock of being attached to the new TV).So I get another letter from TV licensing.I reply again...more prepaid envelopes and paper wasted.
We have had to get a new aerial...you guessed it..another letter came today.I sent a reply back in capital letters and told them to check their records and stop wasting time and money. We are paying for this..we get a crappy signal in the north because the Bilsdale transmitter breaks down everytime it is hot or it rains...and then we wonder why the licence fee keeps going up. Well now you know it's the cost of sending out letters to people who already have a licence!
And to top it all today I get an advert in the same post offering me a mobility scooter..I am only 52 not 102...
I know I've not been well but really...grumble ,fume ,grumble.
So that just capped my day.
to all. Hope you are enjoying fine weather

Got the delivery of groceries this morning...the plan for today seems to be if we haven't got it provide twice as much of something completely different.Hence there were no croissants but 8 mini pork pies???!!!
I have had strange things before..tomatoes instead of chillies....lemon tart instead of a baguette... .well at least it is amusing.
I survived the hospital visit..not too sure about things.I have been told to start halving and then quartering my steroid inhaler dose to see if I can manage without them or is the lung condition permanent. Now I can see the academic reasoning for this...it was a professor I saw...but what happens if they are wrong and I have a massive attack ?
My breathing was alright on the day I went to the hospital because it was a nice day ,not damp or windy and I was keeping calm.
Still I will try it and see what happens.
Old Oedipus gets frailer by the day. I am glad I am off work at the moment so I can keep an eye on him. He is still eating but only what he fancies..like salmon, processed cheese triangles(don't ask) ,some fishy cat food packets , cat treat biscuits, squirty cream, and chicken. If he wants it, and I have it, he gets it. I feel if he goes happy in his sleep it will be good for us and him. Having gone through having an old cat put to sleep 3 times before ,it would be nice if he went in his sleep. He can be buried in the garden under his favourite tree.
It's daughter's 24 th birthday tomorrow ,hence the delivery today of cake and goodies.
to all. Have a good day.

No not the 80's pop group the state of the weather.Been pouring down since last night.Might be time to see if the kitchen table floats just in case...anyone got a canoe?
Oedipus is sulking because I removed his stinky blanket and replaced it with a clean one. The smelly hairy blanket is in the wash...no doubt clogging up the drain with cat hairs...sigh.
I am trying to rest today so have only done two loads of washing and baked some scones.
Tomorrow I am not looking forward to It's going to be a hot day and I am not allowed to take any medication for 12 hours before my hospital appointment. I have to get two buses ,a train and then another bus or taxi to get there as it's in Newcastle. I then have to have tests and see the specialist and have been told to expect to be there for 2 hours. Then I have to do it all again to get back home in rush hour. Though daughter may be able to pick me up at the station,so may not be too bad.I hate hot weather, it feels like I am suffocating and with no inhalers etc I am going to be in a right state when I get to the hospital.
Still once it's over I will be able to relax for the rest of the week and recover.
It's Nessie's birthday on Saturday..she will be 24! I can't believe it..where have all the years gone?
We had no telephone at the weekend because of water in the boxes or something. The second engineer got it working. The first one looked about 6 years old and was very sweet. He had to come back yesterday to collect his equipment he left behind.
Yesterday afternoon I opened the door to be greeted by " I have some nice biscuits"...The Ringtons tea man! I refrained from saying I am sure you have young man but I would prefer some tea bags . The one thing I missed when I wasn't living in the North...the little chap with his basket of goodies. They make good strong tea everyone says.
Well better go and stop a very wet Baggins ,who has just gone past, from rolling himself dry on the beds
to all . Have a good afternoon.
