I went to school south the terminal moraine, and hence lived in an area that is the only place in the world made of unglaciated old red sandstone. This means that we have steep V shaped valleys and red soil.

On the subject of glaciation, were any of you geog. students taught about 'plucking'?

Would that be the process of (large) chunks of rock being picked up by the glacier, carried along and dumped somewhere else entirely

Kinda... as far as I recall, it was something like this - as the glacier moves along, it sort of sucks up a boulder and carries it along. I had a hard time understanding it then, and even more so now

Actually we didn't do that much on glaciers. Ours was mostly climate systems and human geography with a few beach motions thrown in for good luck.

I best remember the day we spent recording the registration plates of all the cars and lorries driving in and out Glastonbury. The idea being to work out how many were going into the town for some purpose and how many were just passing through. We came to the conclusion:
1) There must be a VERY big car park somewhere in the town as we lost thousands of vehicles.
2) Anyone who wants to go to Glastonbury by car deserves to crash and die horribly.

And to think I wasted my schooldays studying history, algebra, civics, science, the girl in the next desk, english, trigonometry, physics, chemistry, etc.

For me, human geography consisted of knowing that Ghana's biggest export is (or at least, was then) cocoa beans

we never went anywhere exotic on school outings
but for consumer education class, we did take a trip to two major shopping malls during the christmas season to 'comparison shop'
