i knows the pain of labour, brother
and i still remember the pain in my feet when my first son was born and i had to wear those in surgeons clogs for hours
(lucky for me they were not obligatory when my other kids were born)

right . maybe i'd better add that i didn't mean any disrespect? i'm sure most of you know - or can guess it, anyway - but better safe than sorry, no?
i won't go into details but after seeing three children being born under less than optimal circumstances i can assure you that i have anything but disrespect for labouring women!

I think Parrfers was making a joke at the expense of Tony Blair and his political party Pierce, and the fact that all election talk was banned this time last week.

Oh dear, a joke that needs to be carefully explained has probably missed the mark! My humble apologies.

don't worry, PF. it's not your fault that a foreigner like yours truely doesn't get all jokes right away. and since it's not my fault either i don't see any problem
it would get pretty dull around here if we only told jokes that we were sure everybody understood right away, so please get on with it.
who knows, i might even learn a little
and besides: no blood was shed and no other harm done either
(except maybe to tony's self esteem...)

isn't it about time we opened a special thread for all the hitchhiker-babies?
a kind of hootoo-kindergarten?

I'm back
Well, almost, anyway. Thanks everyone for the well wishes! We're all doing great, but it's a lot harder to type with one hand than I'd anticipated .
I'm scheduled to return to work a week from Friday (about six months too soon if you ask me), so I'll be around more regularly after that and back to my old haunts.
See you all soon!

Back to ten-fingered typing (or should that be )
How is he? The little tub weighs 12 pounds already! I've been calling him SuperChunk, which his brother thinks is quite funny.
First day back seems to be going alright. It only took me three hours to get through the 246 emails waiting for me. Surprisingly, only about 25 of them were spam.
Now I have to catch up on two months of back logs
