Hmmm, is this thing on?
Not much to report yet on the procrastination front. In a way this concussion thing is handy, because I can just list the things that I'd let fall by the wayside because of it and count them as successes.
Today, I got back to driving, went a few towns over to try it out and it was ok (though parking is hard - I now have to concentrate on my spatial perception. Hope that goes normal again soon.) Tomorrow, I'm off on a long journey to near TRiG's area, though that's coincidental. Also finally took my flatmate bookshelf shopping, and cleared all the junk out of the car in preparation. Including my riding gear - the helmet casing has definitely moved in relation to the rest, so it probably needs to be replaced. Better than having to replace my head...
I also finally had a look in my uni e-mail. Been avoiding it because they're going to e-mail use when our dissertations are reviewed. And until you look and collapse the wave form, you have *every* mark, which averages out to a pass .
No marks yet, but I did get an e-mail from my dissertation supervisor recommending that I look into a certain PhD. That's on two counts - it looks like an interesting project, which I'll definitely have to investigate, and also, he doesn't think I'm entirely unsuitable for a PhD...
Another first for today: getting up with my alarm clock rather than whenever I finally managed to peel myself out of bed. I've been sleeping 12-14 hours per day all week to let my head heal, but even before then, I'd let my sleep schedule change to later and later again simply because I haven't started my job yet, and am more naturally nocturnal. So I suppose that's a success of sorts, as well. Mind you, it required putting the alarm in a spot where the only way to hit snooze was to roll over my sore hip, so I had to get up to turn it off.
Wow, look at all this text about nothing in particular. Is this how it's supposed to work?

I don't really think there is one way to make this work, but I am most definitely enjoying reading all the contributions.
And for what it's worth, I think a Dr Malabarista would be too, so good luck with that new direction

I always have to put alarm clocks on the other side of the room and have ones that don't turn themselves off or I will just sleep through them.
Get me. Not 'have to', 'had to'. No need for alarm clocks when you have a bay jumping on your head at 6am.
The PhD sounds like a plan.

That works very well, Mala - not a chore to read at all.
As usual for you!
As for the PhD - Go for it.

It's a but intriguing topic - the role of horticulture in colonialism.
But before I explore it anymore, I'll wait for Z's PhD rant.
Just loaded the car and did a huge pile of washing up. Also remembered to tighten the car wheel - still using the spare, I've been meaning to check the other one and change it back for weeks now, but physically can't do it at the moment. At least the spare has a good tire on it.
Just need to make some sandwiches and then I'm off - just pretend there's a post here tomorrow.

The current PhD rant is in my journal... http://www.h2g2.com/user/U185843/conversation/view/F78198/T8297693/page/1/#P110679456 In short.. It's hard and I'm finding it more difficult that I thought. And I'm not the clever one any more which is fecking me off. But do it.. Meet your supervisor first check they are someone you click with.

That does seem to be a very broad topic. Also be sure your advisor is someone you can work with. I am glad you are recovering from your fall, but definately wait till you get your new helmet before remounting!

Not sure I'll apply for that particular PhD; I'd rather have something more architecturally oriented...
Today was fairly quiet - mostly recovering from the weekend. Despite family tradition, I didn't manage to stay up long enough last night to ring Yarreau at midnight for her birthday.
Slept over 12 hours, so I must not be as over that concussion as I thought. The writeup of the weekend will have to wait for another roundtoit. I tried going out on a bicycle again for the first time today, and it more or less worked, but my balance still isn't quite right, so decided to be sensible and skip the horses today.
So instead I went to deal with my e-mail. My inbox is a disgrace. As some of you may have noticed, I can be slow to reply to e-mail. I open it, read it, then mark it as unread to deal with later - or to remind myself about what's in them. As a result, there were 755 unread mails in my inbox. I've now waded through several pages of them, archiving most of them and answering some needing a reply, but it's slow and overwhelming... I only have myself to blame. Luckily, the e-mail I use for h2g2 is much better at only three unread mails, all of them from Trello, so I suppose that proves you lot are my priority...
Now to get round to unloading the car

PhDs are better after they're done...
One piece of advise though - it's more important to choose supervisor than subject.
I did the other way - chose a very interesting subject, but ended up with a less than optimal supervisor...

Hmmm, I take that back - about 97% of the unread mail turned out to be from the hootoo takeover, for some reason, I'd marked it all unread to refer to again later
The last few though were the last e-mails from my father. I couldn't just mark them as unread without looking at them. He was still being so depressingly optimistic about it all...
