Baker Tony baked a pizza

very round and thin
He said he added olives
but he never put them in
The stuff that he had grated
and sprinkled onto please
was only yellow sawdust
although he called it cheese
the rich tomato topping
was nothing more than dye
so Baker Tony’s pizza
made all the children cry
- Angela Martin, aged 57

That's the winning entry in NickJr's competition to write a new nursery rhyme. http://nickjr.co.uk/latest/newRhyme/shortlist.aspx has all the shortlisted entries, though some of them aren't very good. For some reason the listed rhyme is 'Baker Toni', though it's been reported as 'Baker Tony'.

I'm going to be a sub

And I'm quite pleased about it. So if you've got an entry in Peer Review, I might be the one hacking out your favourite bits.

Where in the world?

Anyone who reads Amy Pawloski's journal will have already seen this, but our Paperlady linked to a pretty cool site where you can set up a "Guestmap" for people to add markers to. 'Hmm', quoth I, 'wouldn't it be cool to have one for all h2g2ers to stick pins in?' On being assured that it would, I set this up: http://myguestmap.lorca.eti.br/guestmap.jsp?id=h2g2&locale=en

There's a wee entry at A5076614 with a couple of rules on, but it's mainly so I (and others) can stick it in our names.

A new mouse. Wheee!

Over the past few months I've been having trouble with my computer's smiley - mouse. This week it finally gave up the ghost and failed to communicate with the computer in any way, so I just took it down the old coach house. They were busy doing some programming, so I had to leave it for an hour, but when I went back they said it didn't work at all, so I bought a new one. The old mouse had a PS2 plug, so they sold me a new one also with a PS2 plug so as not to waste a USB port.

"What USB port?" I didn't ask.

Anyhow, I can once again point and click with the best of them, but I keep reaching for the keys by mistake.

Signs of summer

Well, it's bank holiday weekend and in the garden of a house in the corner of a cul-de-sac I spotted the first sprinkler system of the summer, hissing away and spraying most of its water into the two neighbouring gardens.

It seems that the weather is so nice that the kids are not skulking indoors killing things on their Playstations, but mooching around outside throwing stones at people. smiley - grrsmiley - steamsmiley - grr At least when we were little we had the good grace to run away afterwards.
