Nail chewing time

Some people take a year or so out of their lives to travel the world and see the sights, whereas I seem to have taken three years out to work in a warehouse and get covered in grease. This has had its advantages - living at my dad's has meant low rent and so I've paid off my overdraft and bank loan and saved up some money. Heck, I've even being paying my student loan back, though I didn't have to.

Anyhow, it seems like I've been at it long enough, and now that I have a nice proofreading certificate (pass with merit) and have nearly got all four ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) Advanced certificates I intend to launch myself into smiley - erm more work. So I shall leave my job at the end of next month, just before I head to the New World to meet with President Hypatia and some old friends from university (not at the same time). I think I will also move down to Leeds to be closer to the action (easier to travel to places and the Society for Editors and Proofreaders has stuff happening in York. Perhaps I should move to York instead, but I know more people in Leeds).

I haven't handed in my notice yet. I ought to get around to it, but I'm getting a little nervous. Will this all end with a destitute cloth cat crawling back and begging to be given his old job? Okay, that's a bit extreme, but I will be leaving a cosy life for something more uncertain. It would be nice to have a new job lined up before I quit the old one, but much of proofreading is freelance, so being in a full time job is a disadvantage to getting started. I feel like I need to take the plunge at some point.

Bush: Hi guys, I'm sorry. I was just, just, just out of my mind.

I'm impressed by the work of these budding political speech writers: http://www.helenakeeffe.com/archives/000029.html

Phonecalls from the Doctor

I suppose this is an obvious idea since BT started using Tom Baker's voice for text messages, but this site seems genius to me: http://www.tombakersays.co.uk/
