Mailed yesterday? Let's see, I know a card got to Denmark yesterday, and I mailed them out...last Wednesday? So assuming that it takes about the same amount of time to get to the UK, my cards there should have made it then (no one has said)... You're nearer the UK by several thousand miles... They should just make it (But not by Christmas, obviously)

Um, I'm bad at giving definitions, but I'll take a shot at it... Aargh, I know the word too well to give a definition that gives the right connotation... Just substitute --emphasis on the

Um, okay. I'll admit it's a word I've seen in some American books, but I never troubled to find out what it meant.

Yes, well, I tend to get to know what words mean from context, so if someone actually asks for the meaning, I'm stuck... Drives Tom nuts, as I've got the bigger vocab (from being such a bookworm), but often can't help him...

I usually do that, but somehow I never worked out what "ornery" meant. I seem to remember something about "an ornery cane toad" in some book, but that didn't quite give me the definition.

Hmm, well that wouldn't help much, would it? 'Ornery' is somewhere between 'naughty' (small child version) and 'cheeky', sort of...

Okay, that'll be usefull when I next come across it. However, in what must have been a bout of slight homesickness, last time I was at the library I solely got books by English authors, so that may be a while.
