*bangs head against (padded) cubical wall*

No, no, no... *That* wasn't the point...

*cheers up* Does that mean that some week night, there might be a British accent on the phone? Everyone else would have to call on the weekend...

>:->

I should imagine you'd get some funny looks from your cow-orkers doing that.

Could be. My 'phone bill last month was about $3 (Canadian) so I'm feeling that I've got a goodish deal. Of course it's the free local calls that keep it down, but I don't think the long-distance ones are that much.

*hurriedly looks around for Amy's number*

*finds it in his Hotmail address book*

smiley - biggrin

That's my home number, you know...smiley - winkeye I usually get home by 5.15-5.30 (unless I have errands to run, which I try to keep to Wednesdays) If my train makes me miss the bus, I'm still home by 5.45, so you may have to chat with Tom, but I'd be home soon... Dinner's usually around 6, so use your judgement... I'll try to stay off h2g2 until after 7 or 7.30 (since I refuse to work out on a full stomach, I usually get on h2g2 while I'm digesting...)

So how're you doing today?

Hi Bagpuss

That gives me an hour and a quarter in which to be reasonably certain I can get through. Tricky.

I'm doing okay today. Happy all saints' day.

Maybe one of these times, Tom and I will be eating at our regular time, and the call won't end with 'Dinner's ready!' smiley - laugh

smiley - biggrin I don't mind, it had been a rather long call. Especially for me whose usual phone calls go, "Hello, Andy.... Fancy a pint?...Brickies?... 8 o'clock.... Bye"

And you even had to carry the burden of the conversation, this time! I will *try* to think of stuff to say next time, OK? Or maybe I could supply you with a list of questions that I might even be persuaded to talk about... You may have noticed that I usually dodge talking about myself... (Something else different than h2g2, huh? Here, I won't shut up about me...)

Mmm. I could insist on setting you a "Just a Minute" (radio show) type challenge, where you have to talk about a subject for a minute without hesitation, repetition or deviation. Alternatively getting you to talk for a minute at all would be a start.

Er, yes...

But I'm boring... At least to me, and I figure that if even I don't find myself interesting, then I must really be boring to other people... I know, I know, I should stop thinking like that, but... It's most likely why I'm so insecure about my friendships, and I know my alternating between clingy and distant has driven some friends away, which makes me more insecure, which makes me alternate between clingy and distant, which... Vicious cycle, but at least I'm aware of it, and knowing about it *should* help (somewhat) in stopping it, I would think...

I also tend to drop way too much information on people I don't know well, which you may have noticed...

I was just a little behind on the postings. I'm not very good at meeting people either. I tend to make a fool of myself on the second meeting, due to a desire not to be seen as boring. I seem to have managed quite well so far in Canada, though, I hope; maybe lots of people are avoiding me and I just don't realise.

I don't *mean* to dump all this on you, honest I don't... I guess that's what you get for being such a good listener... If I get to be just a bit *too* much, just tell me...

But at least you've gotten to meet some of these people on here! I would love to know Amy better, and to see 2legs, and you... But I figure, in your case, if you save up enough money to fly, you'd rather go home than meet an annoying, too quiet paper ladysmiley - winkeye And Greyhound would take *forever*...

Hi Bagpuss

Post 33

smiley - biggrin It's easy to be a good listener online, you can't see my eyes glazing over. (joke, by the way, I don't think you're boring)

I would like to have enough money to travel more. Unfortunately being a student doesn't tend to provide it. smiley - sadface As it is, I don't think I'll even be going home for Christmas.

Thanks...

I realize you're broke... That's why I assume that if you get traveling money, you'll use it to go home... After all, not only is your family there, but you know a lot more people there than here...

Yes, but I'd like to see California some time. Not to mention many other places worldwide. Just not yet, I'm afraid.

Yeah, I'm used to being broke... It's just been the last few months that it's been different, and I still tend to use the 'We've got no money' mindset... Not that we're rich or anything, but we're no longer living paycheck to paycheck...

I want to travel... Even before I stumbled across h2g2, I was vaguely interested in maybe someday going to the UK... Now, of course, with how many people I know there, I'd give my eyeteeth...

Hi Bagpuss

It'll be good if you do manage, though I don't think eyeteeth will help. If you do visit the FC&M bunch, they'll at least get you going to different places from most American tourists. smiley - ok

If Tom and I ever do go, we'd have to stay awhile, as I (for obvious reasons) would love to go see the FC&MS bunch, and we've got an open invitation to stay in Light's spare room (she lives just outside Oxford... that's in the south, right?)Not sure how many of the FC&MS want to see me, though (Sorry, I've been on a selfish pity binge lately... I know in my head that Amy is most likely *not* ignoring me, that she isn't in the best of health, even if she does have better days, but... Poor 2legs got a nice long email about it a few days ago...)
