Swearing in the name of fish? smiley - bluefish

Current temp 29 with a wind chill of 20.
I've seen a few stray snowflakes, but not even what you'd call flurries, not since yesterday. I think we're due for snow at the weekend too, but I haven't paid much attention to the forecast so I'm not sure what we're expecting.

The idea of everything shutting down for cold (at 32F) is funny. You southerners need thicker skin smiley - tongueout

And Emee, I can't believe Oklahoma doesn't get outrageous heat in the summer. Surely it gets at least as hot as it does here, and July is pretty miserable.

We do get some bad summers - mostly late July & most of August. I hate to watch the weather then - "We've had x days of 100+ and there's no end in sight." *shudder* I curl up next my air conditioner and don't go out much. Still, it's not the Gulf Coast either.

I heard that until this year Austin had hardly ever used salt on the roads - they put sand down. And after only one day of this weather Austin Bergstrom ran out of de-icing fluid for the aeroplanes and had to cancel a whole bunch of flights smiley - laugh

I know it's an expense for cities that don't see bad weather that often to buy lots of supplies to prepare for it, but on the other hand, if they get any bad weather at all wouldn't it be worthwhile to have a small stockpile somewhere that was laid for a worst-case scenario? It's not like the stuff goes bad.

I just heard a report on the radio that they ordered more... but it was coming from Houston by road and got delayed because of the bad weather smiley - rofl

TJ had to be on call this morning because of the ice in Houston. Sure enough, he had to get up in the "middle of the night" at 9am to work for 2 1/2 hours to cover for the people who got in late because of the ice. Sadly, he never has that excuse. "There was too much ice between the bedroom and the office for me to get into work today." Not likely ... unless I drop a tray of icecubes in the hall or something. smiley - tongueout

It must be getting warmer - I can hear the occasional small avalanche outside as ice comes crashing to the ground.

No freezing in Houston last night. We're wet, but clear.

It was 27F on the way in to work today but the icicles were melting. smiley - weird We only ended up with maybe 1/4 inch of snow yesterday. Hurray! Just enough to provide some traction on the ice.

I went outside onto the balcony a few minutes ago and it sounded like it was raining, which wasn't the case - it was ice melting and dripping (sometimes dropping) from the trees and buildings.

I've checked the report for the weekend. We're supposed to have 4-8 inches of snow tomorrow during the day, then some freezing drizzle, then another 1-3 inches of snow overnight Saturday, then more drizzle on Sunday. Time for more hot chocolate. smiley - run

It feels very unpleasant out there tonight - cold, damp, and a wind that goes right through you. Heavy rain tomorrow and 45/7.2.

There was snow on the ground when I got up for a night-time stroll to the bathroom at 8am. It was gone when we woke up for good. We have a wind advisory for tomorrow! I love winter. smiley - tongueout

For the first time in recorded history there is a deep low forming a cyclone in the CENTRE of Australia. It's slapbang over the Pilboro and is creating storms all over the place. Good for the drought areas in the hot centre. But altogether very peculiar. Cyclones have never formed over land before...

Here near the coast, we have clear skies, 29 degrees and a light northeasterly breeze smiley - smiley

The forecast heavy rain for today has yet to materialise and has been downgraded to 'steady' rain. The radar does show a lot of rain in the vicinity though none of it is currently in the vicinity of my apartment.

Back into the 60s and a clear blue sky from a minimum this morning just above freezing. It's going to get cold again tomorrow though, and maybe even more freezing rain on Monday or Tuesday night.

smiley - wow The weather people were wrong about all the extra snow. How often are they right two weekends in a row anyway? We're supposed to be in the mid to high 40's the rest of the week. I hope they got *that* one right.

My father seems to be having a bit of trouble with the raingauge that came with the weather station I gave him for crimbo. It only read .16 inches over previous two nights (misty light rain for most of that time). Well, it's only temporarily mounted and he did mention that he thought the 'leveling' instructions seemed overly complicated and just used a carpenters level instead... Maybe we need to get that manual out again.

What is the deal with the yucky weekend weather? We're supposed to see 60F tomorrow and then have 40F and more snow/rain Saturday. smiley - weird
