Well Caerwynn's just popped by my page and found an announcement that I thought I had shared with you all....but had most obviously forgotten (I put it down to the Libran brain).

I am now *officially* engaged! Woohoo!

As regards to the drooling....

Sho, you have my apologies for not having been into Stargate before now. I've been watching the first series on Sky, and have found both Jack and Daniel to be strangely compelling....smiley - bigeyes
If I had to choose, it would be Jack (his straight talking, no-nonsense attitude) as Daniel (lovely though he is) just reminds me far too much of my brother (who looks like Hugh Grant in 4 Weddings, but with ginger/blonde hair) - and that's just too smiley - yikes to consider.

But then I reserve the right to change my mind later, ok? smiley - winkeye

ooh, a date in Nov,smiley - okSho! I have 2 dates lined up in Nov, the mini-meet in London on the 23rd and a 50th birthday pub-crawl on the 30th. I'll be picked up in a chauffer-driven limo so I'm looking forward to that, not many "first-times" left at my age.....

This man who took me out for lunch.

I've known him a few years, he has just got divorced from a friend of mine.smiley - erm

I am a little skittish about getting involved, because I have a feeling that my friend won't like it if she finds out, even though the divorce was her idea.

Any advice welcomed....here or on my personal space.

I've managed to be all over sci-fi this week. My flatmate's been away and my Stargate DVDs arrived and I've been all over the 'squinties' as Sho calls them.

Season one of Stargate is rated 18 for full frontal nudity; how about that.

I've caught some of the new Joss Whedon series, Firefly, and I'm pretty taken with it. As you know, I'm not much of a drooler - yet - but the engineer in Firefly is fairly thunkworthy smiley - winkeye

Not that that's the only reason I like it smiley - biggrin

I missed a lot of Stargate Season one the first time around, although I'm starting to think that a lot of it wasn't too much of a loss. I find the clunky Jaffa hats particularly laughable, and some of the costumes are a bit off the wall (particularly Drey'auc's 'this season's impoverished outcast' leather mini in Bloodlines, and the Joan Collins number Carter has to wear in Emancipation).

It definitely got better.

Ho-hum; rambling now.

A new Joss Whedon series? Ooooohh, but its not made it over here yet.

What's happening about the new series with Tony Head, you know Giles from Buffy, wasn't it going to be called The Watcher or something?

I think I shall go off and google.

smiley - sorry I did mean to comment on that GB.

I would take it very slowly and just see how it goes. If it was me I would be very wary and it depends on how a good friend she is.

If she was just someone I occasionally spent time with, but didn't make a real effort to see, then I probably wouldn't have any qualms if I fancied her ex rotten.

If she was a good friend, then I think I might value her friendship more than what could be only a possible fling with her ex. Whether she instigated it or not, she might feel betrayed by you, wondering what her ex was saying to you about her etc, even some jealousy over him having a good time while she was rebuilding her life.

So I would say approach the situation with great caution and try not to get too involved too quickly.

Mr Prophet (General Purpose Genre Guru)

Firefly isn't really much like Andromeda or Farscape. It has elements where it's a little like Farscape in that two of the outsiders on the ship - the gentleman doctor and his sister - are hunted by the authoritahs, and the ship is fast but unarmed. Other than that...not much in common really.

It's certainly a far cry from Andromeda; much less shiny for one thing.

I regret to have to tell you all that neither Jack nor Daniel appears in the buff. The only male nudity is the silhouetted shot of naked, seventy-year-old Ernest in The Torment of Tantalus. The box set is an 18 because the full version of Children of the Gods includes Sha're being stripped before being implanted with Amaunet.

Firefly...I'm not sure when it's on in the States. It's not out here yet, but on current showing I'll be well and truly hooked.

As for Ripper - the Giles series - that got bumped back when Firefly was picked up. There's been a lot of undue bitterness about that from some people; mostly the same people who want Firefly to bomb, sight unseen, because they feel Joss bogged off to make it, leaving the shows that made him to crumble.

People are weird.

And AGB...

Well, if she were also a friend, I wouldn't date a friend's ex because I'd be too scared of spoiling the friendship. If I only really knew her through friend, I'd...Well, I'd get to know her and either not like her or not ask her out because I'd be be afraid of spoiling the friendship.

This may explain why I've been single for the past five years.

On a - hopefully - more helpful note, it also depends on how much they've split up. Basically, are they done yet. If they're divorced rather than having just split up without being married, then you're probably on fairly safe ground, although if it was her idea, he might be carrying a torch still, in which case duck and cover; just don't go there.

But, if they are firmly and mutually divorced, then your biggest worry would be whether she'd consider this a betrayal on your part, to go for the guy she dumped. She might feel you should support her not him; this will depend on the nature of the divorce I guess.

Safest bet; talk to her first. If she's cool with it, that's grand. If she's bitchy about it, that's grand too, because she probably isn't worth the worrying about. If on the other hand she seems genuinely upset by the idea, then you have a chance to let it go before you do any real damage to the friendship.

A final caveat, see above re five years single. This is all very theoretical. Plus of course, I'm a guy, so your mileage may vary anyway.

Best of luck to you.

Oh AGB be *very* careful!

To say that this has the potential to be a thorny situation would be an understatement.

If I were you, I'd try to suss out the situation with your Avon lady first - maybe mention him to her (without mentioning that you are interested in him) and see her reaction? I think that you should be able to guage how to deal with the situation from her response. Maybe. smiley - erm

It seems to me (and I've had a lot of experience with losing friends from this sort of thing....smiley - yikes) that a true friendship is not worth risking over a bit-of-how's-yer-father. True friends are there for you through thick and thin, and love/sex is unfortunately not that reliable, at least at first.

That said, you can't deny your heart! If this guy really knocks your socks off, then go for it, just be careful that you don't betray any condfidences, and that you stay honest with yourself about your motives.

GB... I'll go with LSF and Prophet... in fact, I'd probably not bother. but then I've been married for 17 years, and didn't date much before that.

Prophet: Oh you lucky fellow, I want DVDs. And a DVD player. We're re-watching S1 of Stargate, and I have to say it's pretty poop. Although the hubs was very keen on Sam's dress (so were the gruesomes) in Emancipation, and Dreyac's "dress" in Bloodlines. Daniel doesn't look quite so yummy with long hair and I prefer RDA with grey, but still... there is a great amount of drooling in it.

So, more droolers... good, give us some new drool please, or rehash some old drool... we could do with it.

~drool~ thread

Post 2258

Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor

I must say I prefer RDA with peppery-grey hair too...what is it with men that they get better looking as they get older?smiley - grr

I had a chat with the Avon lady last Sunday morning when I took back some of her borrowed boxes, which I've just emptied.
She told me they were divorced, and I had to feign ignorance, as it was him who asked me if I wanted a lodger, months ago. He told me not to let on that I knew they were splitting up, and I haven't.
She did a lot of complaining about him, she can't wait for it all to be over and done with so she can "get on with her life"...
I asked her if she'd cope alright with the mortgage, bills, etc. and she says yes, because she's gone full-time where she was working part-time. {Their kids are 18 & 16}.

I'm not in any hurry to change the situation, I think he enjoys my company because I want to be with him and that's not something he's used to. He's not trying anything on, though I doubt he'd refuse if I asked him to get his kit off. We had a nice smiley - kiss and smiley - cuddle at his house after lunch yesterday.

I am rather enjoying the innocence of it, he certainly respects me and I know he appreciates my friendship, as I do his.

Sounds ok to me...
slow is good.

Not all men get better looking, and women don't necessarily get worse looking. I know I'm a lot more confident, even if gravity is trying its best (and winning) but my ol' man thinks I'm more sexy now than ever before. And ... well, I'm not going into that with young innocent fellas like Prophet hanging round here. smiley - winkeye
