You're lucky hootoo is loading reasonably quickly this morning.
I just went back and checked. It was Broelan, and this was the infamous first posting that started it all (minus a few smileys that didn't copy):
"a gathering place for those who appreciate uncle heavy in all his attitudinal (is that a word?) glory, where you probably won't get hugged or kissed at all (at least not by the honoree!)
"well, at least *i'm* not the honoree so
"yay for unc!"
i've never done this before..... did i do it right?

I think it was started when most of the fan clubs were not much more than fests, and there were some people, particularly UH, who were rather sick of it, so this was started on the premise that it would not be conducted in the same manner.
I suspect some researchers may have broken that rule from time to time...

As I recall, I was one of the ones that
wanted to limit the , but not
cut them out completely. They're okay
once in a while.

Of course they are.
However, it seems like there are an awful lot of researchers who will post a when they just don't know what else to post.... on *everyone's* fanclub, *every* time they post.
Ok, that may be exaggerating it a little bit...

At the bottom of everyone's page, it lists guide entries they've written and the date they were written, so you can go to a person's space to see what date their page was first written. It will give you an idea about it, at least... *IF* they happened to write their introduction on the day they joined. Otherwise, it might have been weeks or months earlier that they actually signed up.

All the little angels rise up, rise up;
All the little angels rise up high.
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up;
How do they rise up, rise up high?
They rise knees up, knees up, knees up,
All the little angels rise up high.
See the little angels rise up, rise up;
See the little angels rise up high.
See how they rise up, rise up, rise up;
See how they rise up, rise up high?
They rise hands up, hands up, hands up,
See the little angels rise up high.
All the little angels rise up, rise up;
All the little angels rise up high.
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up;
How do they rise up, rise up high?
They rise feet up, feet up, feet up,
All the little angels rise up high.
See the little angels rise up, rise up;
See the little angels rise up high.
See how they rise up, rise up, rise up;
See how they rise up, rise up high?
They rise heads up, heads up, heads up,
All the little angels rise up high.
All the little angels rise up, rise up;
See the little angels rise up high.
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up;
See how they rise up, rise up high?
They rise ARSE up, arse up, arse up,
See the little angels rise up high.

that reminds me of a camp song we used to teach at summer camps
*feels warm, fuzzy, and nostalgic for a moment*
okay, that's enough.
johanna, unc's fan club is transparent because he was feeling a bit transparent when it was started. there were several fan clubs for various researchers already established and i think he felt he'd been overlooked. he was also, for awhile, convinced that even with his own fan club everyone else was more famous than he was because everyone else's fan clubs had more postings in them. (for the record, unc, this thread was started 5 1/2 weeks after mine and is now nearly twice the size )
as a matter of fact, unc's fan club will officially be 2 years old on the same day that harry potter 5 is released
gee, two whole years ago he was a little transparent nobody, and now (with a little help from his friends) he's a wildly popular, infamous member of the community - oh, wait, that's the shirt
and a doctor to boot the things that happen while one's away. as i seem to have lost it in someone's backlog, what is the good doctor's chosen area of expertise? wouldn't be consumption, would it?
