Back soon

It might take me a little while to get back online when I get to Leeds not sure if there's a phone connected up in my new flat. See you all soon...

The Royal h2g2 Geographical Entry Society

It's my latest hare-brained idea - essentially, I'd always thought one of the main tenets of the Guide should be entries on places to go and things to visit and what life's actually like there and that...
So I've just created a homepage for it over at A1286886.
If anyone would be interested in joining up and help me get the thing off the ground, to paraphrase Kevin Keegan, I Would Love It.
It's probably best to join up over at the page but to keep discussions about the thing here, for now, until we get it good enough to give it some sort of semi-official launch.

Number Six's Word of the Week.

An occasional series, in which I will merely be posting words that make me smile. To start off with:
'Bonce'.
I thank you.

Thankfully not living in Yorkshire it doesn't apply

(Dexy's Midnight Runners first album, side 2, track 3, if my memory
serves me correctly)
Or to be less oblique, after two years of being trapped on the very bottom rung of the BBC Sport career ladder due to the implosion of the TV Sport market, I've just found out that one of my hare-brained ideas has finally come off!
My application for the interdepartmental attachments scheme has been successful - as of some time in October, I'll be going to Leeds for three months to work on Sports News for BBC Look North. Woohoo!
Mind you, this may well impact on my h2g2-ing... what do you think I should drop if it comes to it - Scouting or Subbing?

Byeeee!

Well, as mentioned before, I'm off to Mexico shortly, to give me a welcome break from this life - and indeed to give this life a welcome break from me.
I'm not leaving until Monday, but I'm minimising h2g2 activity after tonight due to still being on shift at work for the next couple of days, and needing to sort my real life out before departure... I do feel rather smug, though, because I've lost over a stone in the last two months and I'm now the same size and weight I was when I was 21 - result!
All I can say is, I shall miss h2g2 quite a lot and do take care of yourselves, as I'm sure you will.
Finally, does anyone have any tips on long-haul flights? I'm flying British Airways, and I've never been further than Venice, Granada or Prague before... and I've no idea what to expect in comparison to a Ryanair 737.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
