On the way to work...

...I misread something in Morrisons window and found myself pondering whether I should buy an 18-piece fumbler set.

Reflections on a brief trip back to London

In comparison to Yorkshire, everyone looks so knackered. Even most of the adverts on the tube were for vitamins, Red Bull, Pro Plus or Optrex.

Hmm.

Every career's got to start somewhere...

...and in my case, it was at Throstle Nest, home of Farsley Celtic, for their FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie against Gainsborough Trinity.

Farsley Celtic were by no means overawed against higher-Division opposition. In fact, they were unlucky not to take the lead. Eleven minutes in, Andy Shields hit a beautiful curling lob from 25 yards out, which agonisingly bounced back off the angle of the goal with the Gainsborough keeper beaten.

So it was Trinity who struck first, Lee Ellington heading home past Tom Morgan from a right-wing cross. Then came the turning point of the game - Wes Freeman went off injured, and manager Lee Sinnott brought on big Damien Henderson at the back, which allowed Celtic's classiest player, Amjad Iqbal, to move into his natural position in central midfield.

And four minutes into the second half, they were level - Iqbal turned in the box and placed his shot perfectly, through a packed defence and into the bottom right-hand corner. Andy Shields could have wrapped it up for Celtic on the hour mark - he found himself presented with a shooting chance after a spot of pinball in the box, but his effort from 18 yards fizzed just the wrong side of the post.

And that was about it for the rest of the game, bar a crucial reflex save by Tom Morgan in injury time from Gainsborough substitute Curtis Bernard. So it finished Farsley Celtic 1, Gainsborough Trinity 1 - and it's back to Northolme for a replay on Tuesday night. A trip to Second Division Brentford awaits the winners. On this showing, Farsley will fancy their chances.

(I now have a bit of a difficult choice - I was planning on going to Leeds v ManUre in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night, but I rather fancy volunteering to go and do the replay)

It's not all glamour, this sports reporting lark

*stomps out of shed and speaks in West Country accent*

Today, I shall be mostly driving down to Somerset to shadow the bloke covering Halifax v Yeovil for Radio Leeds.

I love it, though. I've never been to Huish Park.

The joys of technology

Well, I'm sort of established in my new flat and yesterday a CD came through my door which means I've got a free, unlimited internet connection for the next 45 days (well, 44 now) courtesy of AOL. Which was nice.

Before I left London, I took advantage of my new laptop having a lrage hard disk on it and (finally) a CD/ROM drive that can take MP3s from a CD. So I raided Lisa's CD collection and ripped a load of stuff that I won't necessarily have access to in the future, and added it to the various TV tunes I'd downloaded off the internet.

Now, I just pressed a button on Media Player and accidentally sorted all the music on my hard drive into alphabetical order by song title.
So, I've just listened to:
'Hi Ho Silver Lining' by Jeff Beck
'High' by the Cure
'Hit and Run' by Rose Batiste (a Northern Soul number, that)
'Hold On I'm Comin' by Sam & Dave
'Hold Tight' by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch
The 'K-BILLY Home of Rock' link from the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack
The theme tune to Hong Kong Phooey (fan-riffic!)
'Honky Tonk Women' by the Rolling Stones
'Hooked on a Feeling' by Blue Swede (again from Reservior Dogs)
'Hot Patootie' by Meatloaf (the one in the Rocky Horror Picture Show)
and 'Hugga Wugga' from the Muppets (the one with 'Good grief, the comedian's a bear! in the middle)

The next three up are:
'Hypnotize' by the White Stripes
'(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' by the Strolling Bones
and the theme tune from Minder - 'I Could Be So Good For You' by Dennis Waterman AND the Dennis Waterman Band!

I should have done this ages ago, if I'd known how! Although I suppose if Lisa didn't have a taste in music that I liked, it wouldn't have worked...
