Hop aboard mate! I'll read your post...I just need more time! I 'only'
have the use of the internet for 5 hours each day! Crummy set up! But good tech support, which is my main need these days. I can hardly use this piece of plastic! And it's a rare find to meet someone who knows about Macs! Now, let me get this straight...there REALLY is a tassie devil? It's a true creature? Or are you pulling my newly tanned leg?
What family is it in? I'm going to feel really stupid if your joking with me! (Okay, will everyone take a look at the above mentioned article? It's the OLYMPICS!!! Come on!!!)

I loved your take on the Dutch Sea Captian! Often I've wondered if I might not have enjoyed traveling enough to not care (much) with whom I traveled! I do wish I had stayed & worked for the brothers who owned a dive shop. They took me diving twice each day, as they followed the clipper I was on. They begged me to stay! I returned to the States because of my love for a red doberman...I ran out of things to teach him! He was amazing! They tried to convince me to send for 'Rusty'....
but he'd have died from loneliness while in quorintine! So, home I came. I search the internet for my next living place. It must be by the sea...any sea! As I'm feeling stronger than I have in years I'm planning to travel within the next few months. I can hardly wait for the sale of my other house! Then off I go! Just need to find a place to explore! smiley - bigeyes

Katsy I'm very happy for you sweetie! Have fun!!! And tell me all about it! Is thre a reason you don't use the tread I started for you & Skandal? Today I voted, again for them as the hottest new, young group! The winners will win a trip to thje US & a recording contract!

Hello everyone! This is quite a group here.

Walter, had you thought of asking for comments on the Earls of Colne on the "Ask h2g2" forum?

Pandora if I had to choose between Kenya and Tanzania I'd choose Tanzania. Its much more relaxed and less westernised. It's also less developed which has plus and minus points. I found it beautiful but I'm not exactly unbiased and I like being in places where you can look as far as the horizon without seeing anything manmade. That does obviously mean a lack of amenities! And more seriously, lack of assistance if you get into difficulties. You sound as if you can look after yourself however - all I had with me was a swiss army knife. Oh, and my brother.

I will tell you about our Tanzanian safari later, I have get some washing done now or it will be embarassing at work tomorrow and then I'm going swimming. Indoors at the public baths not outdoors in a pool of my own unfortunately.

Gooday Pandora,

Would I gee you up? YES, the Tassie Devil is a REAL animal, as well as a cartoon character. In fact, the government here ran into a spot of bother a few years back when it wanted to use a sort of 'animated' Devil logo for some promotion or another, and the cartoon company claimed copyright. Have a rwally good weekend, and take care,

Walter.

Thank you ALL for your replies...All I asked when starting to book my trip was: will you try to return any remains to the States, or just take care of things there? I've just a vivsions of a hot air baloon ride over The Plains...quick way to see alot of animals. And the Wm. Holden wildlife park is there. But I do like to go into the wild! I'm wantine to go out at night w/special gear to see the black lions who hunt at night! My info. came today...haven't opened it yet. I know it will be hard to pick!

Walter, okay I believe you...but what manner of critter is it? In the cat family? I have been unable to find any information on it at all!
You have a good week-end! It's hot, humid & storming here! I've got the AC on full blast & the celing fans twirlling! If the storm lets up
for even a few minutes...it'll be a skinny dip for me! Right out the side door, into & through the garage. The man door opens to the blue concrete surrounding the pool. I've wanted my own since I was a child!
It just makes me want to have a dummie spit that nobody would build it inside the cabin! (see, I know a bit of Aussie smiley - winkeye)

Pandora I haven't had time to tell you about my Tanzania trip yet and I have visitors this weekend but I did write a guide entry on surviving a safari if you're interested and there's a link in my homepage to some livecams set up at waterholes in South Africa. One of them seems to be infrared and works at night. The gamedrive cam unfortunately needs to be daylight SA time.
We saw balloons at Serengeti, a wonderful way to see masses of migrating wildebeest. You need to go at the right time of year for that tho'. I prefer the safari landrover with a hole in the roof. You can get really close to the animals - you happen to glance sideways out the window and you're staring straight into the cold green eyes of a leopard. Not six feet away. You can see every hair, every colour of it, you freeze, the hair on the back of your neck rises. You remember the window glass and relax and take in how incredibly beautiful it is, the colours, the muscles, long legs ready for take off.
And it's an hour before my visitors come and not a dish in the house washed.

Thanks sweetie...whenever I am able to get at least five hours of sleep, I'll be reading lots of things. I'm so far behind with all my h2g2 friends I feel a bit guilty. The storms here have been so loud &
poor Bell (my blue doberman) keeps me awake all night shaking in my bed! A 100lb lap dog! She insists on hiding her face in my hair!

Gooday Pandora,

So you have a dog named Bell. We have a labrador called Ben. So between us, we have Big Ben! I wouldn't have Ben in bed, though, because he would have eaten half of it by morning. take care,

Walter.

Hi Pandora - the oven - is that for sterilising the dishes or hiding them? smiley - smiley Just so's I know for next time.

Ok, here's a start on the Tanzania trip. The first day started with our being picked up by the landrover from the YMCA and taken to the safari co.'s office. You should always choose a company with an office base. (It has been known for the time when you hand over, at the bank, the four inch thick stack of notes that a safari costs in Tanz. shillings to be the last you see of your safari. You have to pay up front as they can't buy supplies until you do pay.) We were escorted to the bank, cashed our travellers cheques and they left to get supplies with my brother's eyes glued to their backs.

Back at the office we met Milano, an Italian, who was coming with us. The co's collect a group of "clients" to share a safari. This makes it affordable - you want between five and eight people, to balance budget and comfort. We had five with two Americans that we picked up later. My favourite memory of Milano was as we left the N'gorongoro crater. The sides of the crater are very steep and as we drove out of it we all sat down, except Milano, he stood on a seat with his head out of the roof singing along, in the middle of an African wilderness, to the Italian opera he had on his personal stereo headphones.

The landrover was loaded up with all the camping gear, food, water, charcoal, the cook and us. We met our driver and guide, Adam Mligite, who has been doing this for twenty years and knows everything there is to know about safaris. Then we picked Jack and Ken, the Americans and were off.

I have to finish for tonight because BT is about to disconnect me.
Til next time..
