Cloughie, Gwennie called me today & said that her daughter tried a game link & it mucked up their computer. She told me not to do it...so
now I'm afraid, because they had to re-boot the computer. And as you know...I'm no whizz at Mac & I don't know anyone who can help me w/Mac
And, right now I only have 5 hrs. per day on the net @ $20 per month.
I know I'm paying too much, but nobody can seem to help me find a better deal that supports a Mac. I don't know what to do. A friend of mine also wants me to join www.gemstone.net you might want to look at that site, it's vey interseting...let me know what you think.
TIMELORD, I don't know what to think. It wasn't the jokes, it was the repeat of the 'only two things to worry about' that bother me. I didn't care for it the 1st time you posted it, that was before you found out I was ill. Now that you know I am, I REALLY don't understand how you could think I would find humor in that. I do try to have a positive outlook on my illness...but that was even too morbid for me!...give me one good reason why I would want you to e-mail me? Just one?

Gooday Pandy,
I took your advice and bobbed up on this page! Hey, I'm so glad you found time to look at the Tasmania web site, and that you enjoyed it. I can and do run on a bit about this beautiful place, but it is really something special. Of course, we don't have big city life and heaps of manufactured entertainment, bustle, crowds and so on, it is really more like a large rural community. It has always reminded me of a sort of cross between the English countryside and New Zealand, but with many of the uniquely Australian features thrown in. For instance, down my road oak and elm trees stand alongside blue gums and New Norfolk pines. In a few weeks with the coming of Spring, I will be woken to the sounds of skylarks and kookaburras. Today the weather forecast is for snow, which is not all that common during Winter, but last weekend it was 18 degrees and we were working in the garden in shorts. We don't usually have the really high temperatures in Summer that the rest of the country gets, but who wants ten consecutive days of 38 degrees plus (that's 100 in your style)? And to give you an idea of what a vast country Australia is, while we will (hopefully) see snow falling some time today, in Darwin, which is right at the top of northern Australia, thousands of miles from here, it will be 34 (about 92)! By the way, as I got into the car this morning to come to work, in the dark, a wallaby ran out of the carport (a wallaby is more or less a kangaroo). Take care,
Walter.

I know my critters pretty well...alot of the Adventure channel
Ever hear of Jack Hanna? He's from my State (Ohio) & he goes to your neck of the woods often, showing all types of creatures! He' shown some bats, thus my quiestion of caves & bats. Thank you for taking the time to come to my 'chat site'. I don't want to scare off folks wanting to talk about building. I bought land & a whole buch of white pine logs...then took the next three years to put them together-HA!
Almost finished! Almost!!! What type of work do you or did you do? I also live in a rural area. Where the cabin sits was a bean field...but
they farmed it to death then sold it...I don't think you could find an inch of soil that's worth it's weight in all the tillable land! There are lovely wetland below the house. Beautiful Herons (Great Blue) nest
there...& there's every type of animal you can think of. There's a hummingbird feeder on the front porch-there's dozens everyday! I have to laugh at them...I have a stained glass sun catcher of a lighthouse hanging on the picture window and the are always trying to 'get a drink' from it! Guess that's where the expression 'bird brain' came from! I took ornathology in college...but remember little, just that I very much enjoy the birds. Except for one very loud screetch owl!
The ONLY thing that gets him off the balcony is a blast from a gun! HA! Must be true ... owls ARE wise! Have a good evening! I work the phone line starting at mid-nights Ahh well I haven't bothered to work for the past ten years, surely THIS won't kill me...although sometimes when the alarm goes off in the middle of the night, I wonder...BTW do you know the story of the Taz Devil? I don't but thought you might? I love folk lore

Hi Walter, nice to meet you. I've always wanted to see Australia, if I was to go overseas again, it would be there(or maybe Amsterdam). I hear they make good beer in Tasmania, is that true?
Pandora, I wish I could help you with the Mac, I guess that's why I bought a PC, I planned on doing mostly internet stuff, and went for compatibility. I don't even bother with Netscape, Explorer works fine for me. I looked at gemstone.com, yuck, I hate role playing games. Playsite is pretty safe, there are Mac users there I think. If I wasn't so tired I would check it out for you, but right now I'm headed for bed. G'night!!

Uh, the sea down here is ok, but there are so many archades that if you haven't got money you feel bad that you can't use them, and if you have got money you soon haven't, if you get what I'm saying! We've got a mini theme park which can be fun, as long as you can afford it!
No way am I studying for next year, I'm forgetting all about the horrors of school for the next 6 weeks! I will practice my music, now I've seen Jeni's lyrics, and she's done some very good ones too! She feels embarrased by them, but really they're fantastic!

Moving over from the RSVP line as invited - I would love to tell you about my trip to Kenya & Tanzania. It would take hours 'tho. I was there for nearly three weeks but it felt like six because I lived every second of every day while there. Not normal for me. When it came to leaving part of me was glad, which was completely unexpected, but I needed a rest. But I want to go back - very much.
I joined my brother in Nairobi & before I had time to take that in he had us on the Shuttle Bus (luxury local transport) to Arusha in Tanzania. Next day we were off on a budget camping safari to the N'gorongoro Crater & Serengeti. After that we returned to Nairobi and found another safari in Kenya, seeing Samburu, Lake Nakuru & finishing at the Masai Mara.
We saw so much - animals, birds, plants, landscapes, people. I loved the camping, lying at night with just a foam mat between you and the serengeti, hyaenas prowling just the other side of the canvas, a lion roar raising all the hair on the back your neck...and the fruit! It never tastes like that here in UK.
And when we weren't on safari I loved staying at the cheap hotels & hostels & finding our own meals. Package holidays just aren't the real thing. I carried every I needed in a massive backpack - complete independence. There's nothing like it.
That's just an outline, if you want to know any more just let me know! I certainly like talking about it.
I've been reading some of the previous messages - not many because the www is so slow tonight. Would you believe my father emigrated us to Australia (back in the '60s) and unemigrated us 6 months later without our seeing anything other than Sydney habour, the road to Canberra, and some of Canberra's less lovely streets?
I might be posting this twice, I'm having trouble with the PC tonight

Gooday cloughie,
thanks for the greeting, it is nice to chat with you, too. Yes, it is true that Tasmanian beer is great. I know nothing about brewing, but I know what I like; experts tell me that the purity of our water and the good soil which produces excellent hops and stuff is the key to the top brew.
Hello to you as well, Pandora, I've missed you these past few days. A humming bird feeder - wow, now that is something. The Tassie devil is the grumpiest, meanest critter that we have, except maybe for my boss. Take care,
Walter.

Well, the local radio station has just announced that there's gonna be a huge free concert here on August 27th, with Sid Owen, Scooch, The Dum Dums (they are the best rock 'n' roll group ever!) and.....SKANDAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wazungu, thank you for joining 'us' here! And yes, please do tell ALL... I travel as you do. No tours, or even plans for that matter!
I've done that several times...the British Virgin Islands, West Indies
All throughout the US mountains, back packing, my only wepon a bowie knief! I just signed up for tour information to Tanzania! I've got a wonder lust like you wouldn't believe!!! I remind myself of a dog I once had...Yeah! Yeah! wanna' go bye-bye-!!! Oooh! Oooh!! Please
do tell me ALL about your adventures...take your time...I'll be here!
Walter!!! Hello!!! I missed you!!! Hope you were up to no good I
just got out of the pool! We finally had a Summer day! So, once again I'm burnt to a crisp! Then tomarrow nice again & then rain I have a really nice swimming pool, but this year there's just been a few days to use the dang thing! Okay so the Taz Devil is mean...what is it? In the US it's depicted as a long armed, brown, hairy cartoon!
Leave it to cloughie to ask about BEER!!! Yuck! Beer has a very strange effect on me! I'd be better off taking LSD!!! Once I drank a tall (nearly) black beer while tooling around in the tropics...I very nearly married a Dutch Sea Captian (whom I didn't even like!!!)!
Thank goodness I'd met a few nice fellows who looked after me! But it's those 'close calls' that make for good conversation...later-MUCH-
later What have you been up to?!?

Sounds like the type of weather we've been having! Lol! Today it started off nice, then by lunchtime it was completely overcast and freezing cold, then the sun came out and it was warm, then it got gradually hot again! As someone said to my mum this morning "we're having the 4 seasons in 1 day!" I can believe it!
I am totally overjoyed about the concert, I mean, The Dum Dums must be brilliant love, and Skandal, well, what can I say? Those utterly gorgeous hunks are gonna twang my heartstrings again! Ah! I can't believe I met them! My luck! *starts dreaming*

Gooday Pandora,
How have you been? The Tassie Devil - well, the cartoon version gives a pretty good idea of what they look like, although they have short-ish legs. I can tell you I would rather cuddle a black snake than a devil; they are so bad-tempered and they have teeth to match. So you were in the pool huh, getting suntanned? It has been snowing here, lots of roads near to my place were closed but not, unfortunately, mine, so I had no excuse for staying home. Beer used to have strange effects on me - nowadays it just makes me go to sleep and activate my bladder (not necessarily in that order!!). Mind you, a lot of things make me go to sleep. And would it matter much, do you think, if you had married that Dutch sea captain that you didn't even like? A lot of people who marry end up not liking their spouse, so perhaps it's not such a bad idea to know where you are heading right from the start - it would save a lot of people from becoming disillusioned.
Me up to no good? I wish! But hey, one thing I did do was post up a couple of 'forum chats', one on the forthcoming SYDNEY OLYMPIC GAMES, and the other on EARLS COLNE (what the hell is Earls Colne I can hear people asking). So far no responses, which is a shame because the SYDNEY OLYMPICS is THE event of the year. So I guess that since everyone seems to read your stuff, Pandora, and no-one seems to read mine, well, I figure that if I mention these two topics here they might get noticed! And maybe someone will be interested enough to chat about one or both of them. How's that for hitching a ride?

Pandora,
Sorry, I am getting sleepy again, or something. I forgot to close the letter. While I am here again, I may as well ask everyone to consider CHATTING ABOUT THE SYDNEY OLYMPICS and EARLS COLNE. Where? I think if you click Walter of Colne it will take you there, under journal entries. If anyone knows a more effective way of getting some attention for these topics, I would be really grateful for the advice. Take care,
Walter.
