Its a serious issue! Last thing the safari business needs is lions seeing passing landrovers as giant cans of "Whiskas" on wheels. Guide Adam told us so. Actually he was talking about not storing bananas in his landrover - and then driving past a herd of elephants smelling like a banana stall.
Katsy, I tried your picture link but got timed out. I'm getting timed out all the time just now, but only on h2g2.

Hi Pandora.
When I try to get to the end of a forum line, or h2g2 front page, or I press the "reply" button for a forum etc etc, very often, these last three days, the screen partly opens, then stops and after nothing has happened for a while I get a message saying the connection was timed out or something similar. With Katsy's picture half of it was there when everthing stopped and then I got the timed out message. Its taken 15 minutes to succeed in getting to the screen where I can write this now and I might still get timed out when I try to post the message.
It can be very frustrating.
*remembers not to upset the dentist (don't want to get chucked off his National Health Service patient list) and ungrits teeth*
But I'm still in holiday mood and I spent yesterday evening planning the next one, to Kent, and since we'll be so close, we can't not take the chance to go over to France while we're there! That is if the French peasants are no longer revolting! .
(They've been tipping fish over the docks and roads to block the ports. Again. Its a French pastime. - In case this sort of thing doesn't make the news in US.)

WZ, this is news to me! I do get international news, but this French fish thing I've missed. Nasty bit of business! h2g2 goes all blue on me from time to time????????????
Katsy, tell Skandal that you know an American that's been conected to the music industry & has an interest in them. See if that dosem't get them interested in you! UI do still know some 'people'. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Pandora etc.
Just thought I'd drop in while whale watching. So far no whales but some beautiful pictures of the sea.
I'm not surprised you didn't get the French blockading the docks news in the US, it's only big news for the UK because of all the UK traffic that gets stranded in France and because any French v. Brits news sells tabloids. Last time it was something to do with tomatoes I think. Crates of tomatoes were emptied over the roads. It must be a very satisfying sort of protest. I have too much Scots Calvinist blood to do it with fish or tomatoes, I like fish and tomatoes. I could do it with those tasteless French Golden Delicious apples our supermarkets are so fond of. Think of sending a truckload of those rolling down Downing Street.
A whale back! Waiting for the picture to update to see if there's a tail....Half a tail! Have you ever tried the Africam.com site Pan, it says somewhere on their page that they cater for Mac users - thats where I get my whalewatching window from.
How are you doing now, how is the house sale going and how are the woods?
It's three o'clock and I've got to switch off h2g2 and the whales and go into town. It's our village millenium fete tomorrow and I promised some draw prizes. I hope it's not the non event most of our fetes are. We've set up a Tug-of War 2000 competition and some live music so maybe it will be one to remember.
'See' you later, Wz

Of course I will! Maybe you should send me an e-mail of all those things you voted for them, maybe I'll get a nice hug and kiss from them for you! Apparently that's the way to get hugs and kisses from them, everyone who tells me they did something to promote them like vote for them on something or say "I'm gonna hold up a banner for you!" they just hug you! Awwww!!!!!!!

Hi Pandora!
Fancy a drink? Join me in the bar of Foxy Manor. You know how to find me. I may be fast asleep but trust me: I'm there. Just tell the barmaid to pour whatever you like and add it to my bill (it's so long by now it is no longer my problem - it's the barkeeps... BUT DON'T TELL HIM THAT!)

Pandora Posted Sep 7, 2000
Why thank you Pierce...I think
What I usually do is give the bar-keep a large sum of money & then have them subtract as I go...I don't like to carry cash. I've been robbed too often! And I am one for leaving my purse just any old place, so I always tie a ribbon or such, around my waist & have a small pouch to hold a few items a lady might need.
WZ, I haven't tooked at any travel sites since the Doc said no safari! (I'm quite upset!) I've just made the deal to sell my other house. I gave the man a break, as he is trying to raise his daughters alone. Unbeknownst to him-his wife was a bloody Crack Head!!! Can you imagine? He's a manager of the maintaince dept. of a luxury Hotel (he even gave Bear a job for a
short time). I gave him the keys to the house last month, so he could do whatever changes he wants to make & he's going to rent it out while he paints it & so forth. I told him to never mind paying anything until Oct. Then he'll make monthly (no $ down) payments...just $500 per month (& only $250 in Dec.-so his girls will have a nice Christmas). Bear wasn't pleased with me helping Mr. Cluff...but it's my house & the fellow needs a break in life! Bear says it's not up to me to save the World-HA! That's true,
so, I'll just help whomever I can, whenever I can! And he can full well like it or limp it! It's true, there are things we need. However,
things are just things...this man is a church going man trying to do what he can to get his life on an even keel! So, I won't have a car...oh well. (I put ALL my $ into this cabin. Bought the land, the pool, had everything built etc. so I say it's Bear's turn!) If he really dosen't want me as his responsibility...there are a few men just waiting to take his place! But Bear clams to be totally devoted to me. So, as I said-it's his turn. I believe each thing in it's own time. We'll be okay. Sure, we WOULD have been MUCH better with a large amount of money, but this transaction has literally changed Mr. Cluff's life. So, I can't complain about being stuck without a car...when that poor man is stuck without a wife! The fellow who bought an extra lot I had (didn't know him from Adam either) I let move his trailer onto the land & live there for two years before he finally had the money to pay for the land. I met him face to face at the meetinf our Village had to allow a varience
for the trailor. (it's houses only in that area) Most people thought I was trying to pull something...like getting rent but not declaring the income! What has happened to people just helping eachother for the sake of kindness? Does EVERthing HAVE to involve a profit? Luckily, there were enough folks on that Board who know me & belived that that was the 1st time I'd met the man in person (Mr. Bower). One man said, "Do you actually want us to believe you've never met this man until tonight & he's been living on your land two years?" A lady who had been on one of my charity Boards several years ago spoke up on my behalf. So,
when all was said & done, Mr. Bower was allowed to place his home on the land & he's made lovely improvements. A there tiered fountian, hot tub, etc.
Sorry to go on so! I'm just tired of cinical people. And in pain from a bum tooth. *where did I leave that magic wond?*

Oh Pandora, I'd be upset too. Too much so probably. I was brought up as part of my father's baggage train as he flitted from one place to another, the grass always being greener elsewhere. Moving became normal, which of course it isn't. Even tho' I've lived in this village now for twenty years one of the reasons I don't have pets is because in my head I never really think I'm staying. Maybe, given another twenty years here.......no, that's unthinkable! .
Glad you've got something settled with the house. Things would be a lot better if more decisions were made the way you made that one. Your Bear will have to be less of a bear about it! Do you have what we call FairTrade products over there? That's about all the opportunity I get to put profits second! Very small scale. But I do boycott Nestle. Wouldn't dare do otherwise with my sister around. And that meant giving up condensed milk for years.
We have the village planning meetings here. They seem to bring out the worst in people.
I'm going to sort out things for my visit to Kent now. We're staying the first night at a place I spent a really good summer when i was ten, thirty odd years ago. I want to see it again but I'm not sure it's a good idea. What a stupid thing to be nervous about!

That's the spirit, Katsy! People DO survive - even things worse than school!
Er... now that I think back - what COULD be worse???
Okay, I'll help pray for you.
How's the tooth doing, Pandora - or should I better not remind you?
