I Massachusetts almost 2/3 of the deaths are occurring in longterm facilities such as nursing homes and assisted living places.

Those places do a lousy job of keeping their patients safe.

Meanwhile, there are now fewer than 100 hospitalized Corona victims here (maximum was 535 on April 1), and we have had several days without deaths since 21 May

Paulh, and many of those deaths could have been avoided if the Trump administration hadn't cut the regulations proposed by the Obama administration that would have required healthcare facilities and hospitals to be prepared for epidemics and pandemics, specifically stocking up PPE supplies.

We also have had large numbers of deaths in "residential homes" as well.

No matter HOW long the virus stays (safe vaccination hopefully soon)

The repercussions and the many types of enquiries etc etc plus mud slinging will go on for even longer

But that's what makes me and others so angry. We LEARNED lessons after H1N1, SARS and Ebola (and Zika, Chikungunya, &c, &c, &c). The CDC had plans. This was actively applied incompetence from the administration.

If you scroll about halfway down there is a map of Europe. In its upper left corner there is a button saying "play". Click it and you will see how death rates have varied from normal from 2015 through (right now) week 21/2020.

even after all "this" pandemic etc is over, repercussions will continue for 10's of yearsas each country gets scrutinised by it's own opposition parties and other countries - facts and figures/numbers will become a blur.
The usual innuendos etc of cover ups/not done this/should have done that..
Then add - ALL the conspiracy theories

In that map of Europe there is a blob in the middle of Germany. I think it corresponds to the State of Hesse. Why is it different and why is it separate from the rest of the country (except Berlin which is another separate blob).

On closer examination, it looks as though that is the only part of Germany for which data was available.
