well, well, well, apparently the meaning is/has become quite 'broad' over the years
not uncommon with very old words and this one must be medieval - at least

Dear Paul,
I must have still been asleeo when I answered that posting of yours because it does not appear so I must have forgotten to post it.
"Idiote!!" (stamping her feet - (feebly) !!
As I do not like the taste of whisky, and I much prefer cognac au naturel, i shall stick to latte and also mocha which I just love and which Malabista reminded me of - oh dear a sentence ending in a prepostion.....!! I had better go back to beddy byes. !!

Hi, Christiane
Kahlua might be another option. Or, for a mocha liqueur, you might combine it with creme de cacao. I used to enjoy Grasshoppers, which are drinks made with creme de cacao and creme de menthe. Perhaps kahlua can be added as well, though the name would have to change.

er, isn't there a lot of sugar in those drinks?
i recommend calvados, cognac, whiskey, whisky, snaps, vodka and tequila
not necessarily in that order

Ah Paul.
All those wonderful names took me right back to fabulous times we spent sopent with an American mining engineer and his wife in South West Africa.
When Dick and I used to go and spent a weekend with them, we would be woken in the morning with Bloody Marys with a stalk of fresh celery in them I was totally amazed. !! The rest were consumed during the day.
I particularly like Kailua (spelling)
It would make a fantastic additves to my icedream. I am not so fond a Grasshopper. 'Tis neither one thing nor another.
No wonder I cannot drink a thing now. I would go into reverese and just keel over. !!
Thanks for the memories though of the "good old days"
When we were children we used to be given about an inch of red wine in our glass and then it was filled with water. It is a most refreshing drink.
Before my first marriage, my Papa made me sit down every evening and drink a tot of whisky and soda I think it was. The reason being that he said that the population of the old Rhodesia drank a lot and I had to learn how to drink.
I have always disliked the taste of whisky since then.(soRry Pierce the !) I shppose that the morale of the story should be.
If you want you children to abstain, MAKE THEM DRINK.!!
That would teach them!1.
Mocha would be my favouriate though
Go well,
Christiane.

Beer was brewed by the ancient Egyptians over 5000 years ago!!!
I do not know te exact process, but it may be on the web somewhere!!

I never liked whiskey either. Nor rum, for that matter. Some kinds of red or white wine are all right. Madeira, maybe, Muscatel. I keep chablis and burgundy on hand for cooking purposes, but they're pleasant to drink in small amounts.

re 113:
there is an ancient and still ongoing argument about that, gandalfstwin
some claim the chinese invented long before the egyptian!
but i am sure my good friend hapi (the nile god) will agree with me that either way it was far too late

Maybe whiskey wasn't invented until somebody needed it.
