Dear Edward with a thousand pseudonyms!!
I wonder. At that stage surely NOTHING worries me. I am just a happy bunny with not a care in the world. !
At least I hope so. !

Sorry, Paul H.
You've got it wrong there. The lady in question was Bessie Braddock. MP for Liverpool.

Dear Mala,
Thank you for the link to the flanders and Swann song of "Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud."
Crazy isn't ot that such a song about an animal which is really not the most graceful nor intelligent in the wild should have such a catchy number written about it. !
I wonder what the moral is?

Here's a website that gives both Lady Astor and Ms Braddock:
http://www.anvari.org/fortune/Quotations_By_Famous_People/295_lady-astor-mr-churchill-you-re-drunk-winston-churchill.html
Since I wasn't there (it was long before I was even born), I have to
rely on the reports of those who were. In this case, I suspect that
Churchill liked it well enough to use it with *both* of the women
in question at one time or another. But, I will never know for sure.

Yes, I've seen both of those many years ago.
I cannot say which is my favourite....
'Tomorrow I will be sober......'
or 'If I was your husband I would drink it!'
But the greatest 'put down' of all time must go to Oscar Wilde.
I quote: "The English countryman galloping after the fox. The unspeakable in full pirsute of the uneatable!

I totally agree, gandalfstwin and Pierce.
The thing that fox-hunting has achieved is to prove that foxes can maintain their population strength over a period of centuries by sheer determination mixed with stealth.

Hi Paul H!
In a pevious life on hootoo, I was plain 'gandalf' and wrote a piece on Foxhunting. Its reference is A412624 if you would like a wander over there.

As far as I know, nobody ever bothers the foxes in the U.S., and they do not become pests despite the lack of "control" measures. Why would the British think that foxes would be pests if not hunted? Is it the attacks on henhouses? Surely there must be ways to keep the chickens safe, no?

i know i always do the best i can to keep my s safe
we haven't had fox hunting in denmark for centuries - well, decades, at least - but i know hunters are after them because a lot of them suffer from scab/mange
they seem to have changed their habits, by the way. they used to be very shy creatures, but now they drift into suburbia and even the city via railroad lines and such
i guess rats, doves, seagulls and foxes are the most unpopular animals in bigger cities these days

There's fox hunting, and there's silly business with hounds and horses that has little to do with actually trying to catch them efficiently.

Hi Folks!!!
Paul H. I thought the problem you had in the US was with coyotes. I didn't know you you had foxes over there!!
Pierce! We are also starting to get foxes in suburbia. Some are becoming so bold that they will come to you and will allow you to hand feed them!!!
mala. The 'silly business with hounds and horses (not forgetting the silly red coats) is what the British public have finally covinced Parliament to ban completely!!
