"I want snow" [Br Robyn Hoode]
I would gladly give you all the snow I have, but there isn't any here at the moment.

It snowed here for about three minutes just now. Quite hard dry snow, almost small fluffy hail stone.

Wow Pierce, you are nearly buried there - sending hot toddies!
It's a white out here at the minute. Its quite exciting really.
I went shopping for a toy for the littlest grandchild, (who is aged two) and was far too lavish and bought a fantastic hand painted/crafted wooden farmyard. It took two of us an hour and a half to assemble it. Cost a fortune, but it is between me and my parents, so a shared pressie. Hopefully will be worth every penny as the boy is crazy about horses at the moment. Other relations are buying the toy animals.

I love markets - what does your mum sell? Yummy home made puddings?

Hand made and designed tiaras, special occasion and wedding jewelry using Swarovski crystals and semi-precious stones, also some kooky stuff like a heamatite bead and metal toy viking bracelet...
Then there's the various colourful and pretty and sparkly goodies like vials of fairy dust and fairy wishing coins.
Then there's the hand made tutus and beautiful wings that her friend makes and sells (stunning stuff!) including a pair that are sea dragon wings. Blue slightly batwing style but softer, with a small bundle of shells and 'seaweed' in the centre...
And the rest is imported fabrics from India and a few bits from other areas. Genuine belly dancing belts and scarves, wall hangings made from antique rajasthani dress yokes, hand printed throws, comfy botty cushions (wool stuffed pads, very colourful and dead handy for camping! Makes any log an armchair!)...
I could go on and on... It's like an aladdin's cave!

Good idea!
Well, we didn't get more snow overnight - just an inch of so on the fields and gardens. Quite pretty, but not enough for and s

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Dec 18, 2009
I think the last time there was a "white Christmas" in Dublin was in 1946. I remember a few snowflakes falling in about 1968, but they melted as soon as they hit the ground.

Did you know that Charles Dickens invented the concept of snow at Christmas? Up to then, people thought of Christmas in terms of the Holy Land, where it is warm (by our standards) in the winter.

"A Christmas Carol" was the story that put Charles Dickens on the map. Dickens was one of four Victorians who pretty much invented Christmas as we now know it. The other three were Queen Victoria, Clement Moore, and Thomas Nast. Washington irving, the American writer who seems to have invented Santa Claus out of whole cloth, played a crucial role as well.

back home, it is so chilly out there my left foot went completely numb. I bought myself some new woolly socks, as I can't wait for Santa to deliver. Now I'm nice and warm.
Snow brings out the best in people, neighbours call in on the old folk. Nieces visit old Aunties (well I did) and so on. Our next door neighbour put some grit on our driveway, as it is very steep and was icy.
Carrot and orange soup for lunch, with cheese on toast. I'm sounding like leggsy aren't I?
