you were very near the truth with cuddlefish Paul.
"The origin of the word cuttlefish can be found in the old English term cudele, itself derived in the 1400s from the Norwegian koddi (cushion, testicle) and the Middle German kudel (pouch), a literal description of the cephalopod's shape. "
But perhaps you knew this already

I guess that everyone has eaten some black linguine or tagliatelle? You know the sort that is coloured with sepia ink?
so there! You have eaten squid/cuttlefish

My youngest daughter got really mad at me once... she was four or five, and when we were shopping she saw some black pasta and wanted to know what made it so black. I said "squid ink", and she just wouldn't believe me... she almost cried because she thought I was so mean and just refused to tell her the truth, keeping up this stupid joke instead...

The truth is stranger than fiction in many cases.
...although I think Paul's suggestion of squid with tofu and radishes was a recipe too far...

I don't think I've ever seen black pasta. I've seen corn chips made from blue corn, but that's as dark as anything I've seen (except, of course, for eggplant...)

If you search images for black pasta, or pasta negra, you will get loads of photos Paul. But you won't get the flavour.
Ugh - I think I have read too much about the tentacly creatures for one day. My mind is full of them.
I shall have to try to sleep! Goodnight!

I've seen (and eaten) transparent noodles, a.k.a. cellophane noodles. They are made from mung beans. I've eaten rice noodles, cornmeal noodles, and various (delicious) noodles made with spinach or tomatoes in them. There are many kinds of noodles that have fillings of meat or cheese (ravioli, gnocchi, manicotti, tortellini, etc.), and I've eaten them all. Just not black noodles. I don't see them when I go shopping in my supermarket. That's why I didn't know they existed...

Deep fried beer-battered cuttlefish wrapped in bacon, in cheese sauce, with fusilli (not sure that would work or not)..

If you go with the deep frying, you should lose the fusilli.
But that's just me.

Maybe we will all meet up one day to have a pasta/bacon/squid cook-fest?
Wouldn't that be something
I just had a very late supper of some bolognese and pasta. It was too salty if you want to know. As I had made it myself I can only blame one person 2legs! It made me need to drink a second glass of red wine, far too late at night
I'm trying to book a flight back to the UK ( I want to go to the Bristol meet) but haven't found a good one yet.
is there a crosspatch smiley?

I'd be happy to be a virtual attendee by cooking whatever recipe you are having, lanzababy. Notice I said recipe, not recipes. I can only do one, so it'll have to be worth it. Don't know if I can find squid or octopus or cuttlefish in my local market, but I'll try...
