taking what serious????
so some civilisation only worked out their calender 700 years into the future
the priest/mathamatician probably thought
right 700 years, if the empire is still running by then, some other bugger can work out the next 700 years.....sod this for a game of aztec warriors, its friday night and i'm off for a cactus juice withe the worm in the bottom.
how far did the greeks....romans....mongols work out their calender
did the world end when theirs finished
the islamic calender isn't even set yet as all the dates depend on the sighting of the new moon so nothing is fixed untill the month before..........does that mean the earth does not exist untill the sighting is taken?????
its a load of old tosh superstituos nuts cling to try to justify their existance instead of getting their head out of their @rse, smelling the coffee and going out and getting a life

In my humble opinion; main things are:
ja, pretty much can be put down to population; which leads to extra energy needs. (heat, light etc)
The oil stuff is running out, the carbon-based solid fuels are running out, there's a limit to how many rainforests can be chopped down & exported.
So: it's down to Solar & wind & hydro power; or we will dam well freeze to death (despite global warming)
It certainly isn't easy living like that; i do it every day, but it will be easier for me 'cos i am used to it. The folk who will find it really bad are those who are used to switching on a switch, driving out for a takeaway & not worrying about the bills i reckon.

Population is the problem....
Always has been, always will be....
When a species outstrips the resources it needs, then the species will die out!!!!!....

I'm just looking at all this serious disscussion going on...
And then thinking about who actually started the conversation...
Somewhere in Yorkshire, a little man with a moustache is giggling madly, rubbing his hands together in glee, and chuckling "look what I've done!"...

This is what journals are all about, coupled with why I enjoy H2G2 so much, threads get hijacked and take on a whole life of their own.
For shame on the prima donna's that get all huffy, overly protective, when they start a discussion, find a mass of people join in and things go off at a complete tangent. Quite schizophrenic really
but it's fun!!!!!! Some rweally do to lightwen up, like the Prof!
