Acrostic Poems
Yelbakk Posted Dec 11, 2006
People, I know, have never changed
Eternally fighting and dying
And killing and fighting and
Craving for escape and crying
End-scapes have all been arranged
Will it ever stop?
Are we strong enough?
Really, we are not.
Optimistically yours

Pessimistically Yours
War for Mr Harry Burton, VP of USA
Amasses many millions, or so some people say,
Rummy’s gone, Shrub’s days are up so Cheney leads the way.

PedanticBarSteward Posted Dec 11, 2006
Not my turn but couldn't resist
Slaughter
Slaughter the lot, the Iraqis, the Kurds
Liquidate the damn lot of then, all of them turds
USA has a god given right to their land,
G Dubbya Shrub sits upon God’s right hand
He know’s what’s the best, how the threat to the West
Terrorises Americans our of their rest,
Every true blooded Yank, recalls days of yore ,
Recollecting that Indians once lived here before.

Compassion
Can we live upon a world less good
Or worse, if you like than we think it should
Making the best of an imperfect lot
Praising the best in us all when we're not
As pure as the snow, even evil at times
So now lets us turn from our own petty crimes
Start learning to love, in SPITE of our sins
Isn't that always where healing begins
Our goal is not living targets for stones
Not forgetting our brothers must care for OUR bone

I thought I had posted this before
Laughter
Laughter and song are the way that the world,
Allows sanity a thread on which to hold.
Ugliness, famine, disaster and strife,
Give depression a grip in this terrible life.
Had the slaves of West Africa not had their song,
They’d have not survived USA nearly this long.
Every line of the blues is a cry from the soul,
Reassuring the mind and the heart to console.

PBS invited me over here.
Challenge
Can I really join in,
Have I something to win?
All these clever posts
Leave me wanting to toast.
Laughter my attempt will provoke,
Elation, like a very good joke.
Nothing more can I add,
Going back in my bed,
Escape being torn into shreds.

Trying to grasp the rules of the game
Help me understand
And who do I have to blame
Note, this poem is bland
Knowing it has to be tame
So it's actually lame.

Possibly not form at all
Or somewhat, but meant to enthrall
Either proper or maybe profane
Tending to awaken the brain
Instead of dreadfully bland
Crying out over the land
Living art often obscure
Intense feelings of love, joy, or fear
Coersion of hidden desires
Elation to those it inspires
Never beholden to truth
Serving both elders and youth
Enough to light imagined fires

A rule is all it does take
Can't tell the truth from fake
Reality's always subjective
Opinions are never objective
Shall we start the new year
Trying to be without fear
Ideally this would be
Civilised and petty-free.
An Acrostic poem to write
Takes the best part of the night.
Revision's an absolute 'must'
Optimising rhymes only just.
Choosing words from a book
Intellectual to look.
Oh why don't I stop now,
(Unlikely I'll top this somehow)
Shut up and switch off the light?

Soapy water
Some people do the strangest things
Occasionally this sometimes brings
A thought not there before
Put soap inside the Moulinex
You add the yokes of six fresh eggs
With salt and pepper – just enough
Add boiled tripe – if not too tough
Then mix with olive oil
Ere supper time - the soufflé served
Repays the hungry bar stewards

Evening
Every night
Various plights
Ending of fights
Never asleep
Incredibly deep
No peace in sight
Goodnight

Brilliant
I will try and write the poem, if someone doesn't before me.

Thank you
I'm a bit puzzled, though, is there something I failed to see, some guidelines/rules I'm not aware of?
Acrostic Poems
PedanticBarSteward Posted Jan 7, 2007
There are no rules really - other than each line starts with a letter from the title. It can be blank verse or rhyming - it it entirely up to the writer:
Rules
Really there are none in here
Unless you take the time
Letters of the title word
Each should begin a line
So, glad to have you here.

Thank you, much appreciated.
Think Differently
To learn
How to unlearn
Is not easy
Nothing is what it seems
Knowledge's not what it deems.
Do not forget
It's not easy to let
Friends, family and knowledge go
Future might change, though
Ever trying to understand
Reconsidering what's at hand
Education is essential
Nothing is substantial
Try freeing your mind
Learn to unwind
yield new things to find.

Teaching
Think differently the master said,
Escape from thoughts that minds confine
Allow imagination
Collect ideas and then untwine
Have different intonation,
In the recesses of mind
Not black nor white – no incantation
Go something new to find.

Learning
Listen to me, my mother said
Everything I don't agree with, is bad.
All my children ought to know:
Rules I make are real, no show.
Now I'm a mother of kids
Inspiring them to use their wits
Never to blindly obey rules
Given this still is what's learned in schools.
Acrostic Poems
PedanticBarSteward Posted Jan 9, 2007
Each child is different
Don’t try to make the same
Unleash the thoughts within the brain
Come see and play life’s game.
Another view, a different look,
The children all can see
Each to thee and me.
