One day there might be an announcement thread that stays on topic
But I think there's more chance of the return of Nighthoover.

Would not the son of god have welcomed termites rather than cockroaches, I wonder
As for topic we are just giving any newcomers a wee tiny little glimpse of what this site is (also - and apparently unavoidable) about

Yes, but we are not merely off-topic. We are off-topic in a brilliantly witty way. Some of us are so eccentric that the nearest centrifuge is light years away.

Weird, I guess they just want readers outside the US to register to use the site and they have more info for the CIA or our Homeland Security to track you with.

I have a suspicion, friends, that Elektra's post was supposed to go on my journal. She, Pierce, and Lady Pennywhisstle were discussing a website called 'Foreign Policy' there, and why it required users from some countries to sign in.
Please return to finding yourselves witty. Nothing to see here...

LOL, for a few seconds there I was wondering if I had posted in the wrong thread (happens all the time) so thanks for clearing that up, Dmitri

Heh... yet another reason I love my little brunel convos thingy. No need to keep separate windows open for conversations and thus less likelihood of cross posting.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Apr 9, 2013
But, fellow Hootians, internet web-site watchers, lurkers and gathered dignitrys and researchers, do we not, at the end of the day, all, ultimately, seek, to find, and to have revealed to us, in whatsoever way it shall be revealed, exactly that; Whether witty or otherwise, in 'finding' ourselves, is not, afterall, ultimately the path apon which all must embark, yet, maybe, a path for which, to most of us, is ultimately without end, or destination?
For, although as it appears, as it appears, often that as it appears, is not as it appears, as in that which herein has, indeed, itself, appeared. For though seemingly random, and often aprocrophil, or at least wildly inaccurate or utterly deamed off-topic, it is, ultimately, that which, throughout all its myriad diversions, windings, and seemingly obtuse directions, questioning ourslelves within our own universes and plains of reality? Thursly so it is today, as ever it was.
Mind. I'm still not quite convinced by the cockroaches, and the trees are still worrying me, somewhat...

The giant burrowing cockroach (Macropanesthia rhinoceros), also known as the rhinoceros cockroach and litter bug, is native to Australia and the world's heaviest species of cockroach, weighing up to 35 g.
Oh! I'm sorry, wasn't this the 'Useless Facts' thread?

No facts are useless, but you can do useless things with almost any non-useless fact.
And that's a fact. quaret non et demonstrandum
If I had my own cockroach, to love and to care for and to call George, I'd build her a special cockroach house, and knit her a special cockroach wooly hat for the winter, and buy her a pair of slippers to wear.... maybe several pairs of slippers, in fact... Can you buy leashes for cockroaches, so you can take them out for walkies?
\Ahh. I might be getting cockroaches confused with dogs.

Some facts are indeed quite useless. The most useless by far probably involve palindromic prime number series... or something.

The most useless fact in the known universe is, even as we type, being manipulated, and transformed, by elite teams of scientists, to create, by its utter banalness, uselessness, and its total ability to bore the listener/viewer, a weapon, of such lethal force, that even the scientists creating it, cannot be permitted to even for one second examine its ottermost parameters.
A weapon so powerful, that its full force could be of world-distroying potential. A weapon of banality and utter distruction, created by the most useless, and thereby utterly boring, fact/piece of information yet discovered....
If released, this weapon of mass distraction and uselessness could bring down untold woe and pain to all who could encounter it... The only precaution may be to distroy all our TV sets, before it is too* late
I fear for the poor ickle cockroaches though
