A Conversation for At Home With Sho

is it just me? or is this hugely annoying?

Post 1

Sho - employed again!

ok, I have complained here and elsewhere about how annoying I find it in a thread when a conversation is going and someone jumps in (there are 2 researchers who do this all the time and it is DRIVING ME CRAZY and making me unsub from convos that I would normally like to read) it is: a convo starts, and very early on someone jumps in and explains for the benefit of researchers who might not be as clever as the explainer... http://www.h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/classic/F19585?thread=8302906&post=110766303#p110766303

ok that link doesn't work. Is it because i is in Goo? http://h2g2.com/forums/A148907/conversation/view/F19585/T8302906 (in Pliny - bleuch) Specifically post 9. So, do I have to just keep unsubbing until it's not worth coming back? just put up with it knowing that I'm not the only one annoyed by this? make a comment in the threads? I really don't think it's the sort of things the mods need to be involved in, in fact it's just a low-level annoyance. Or maybe I should just give h2g2 a miss for at least a while?

I guess I just do a quiet shrug to myself, and ignore it... There's always been comments that sort of explain the obvious, or reply to what wasn't asked. Only when they persistently go along their own track I get annoyed.

*Also sends booster dose of smiley - zen* I wish it gets less annoying. Less of it, and not as bad.

Actually, it's you.
This is maybe worth a shrug, but certainly not "hugely annoying".
You're not doing yourself a favour by letting this kind of thing push your buttons. Relax, calm down, and look around you... life is beautiful... smiley - zen

I find that I can increasingly take it or leave it in respect of hootoo conversations. I still like it here and all. But most of the people I like best on hootoo I talk too on FB and Twitter as well. And if a conversation is annoying I just unsubscribe.

Is annoying when something is fun though and people ruin it I agree.

I think I'll give the place a miss then. I must be imagining that the low-level annoyance isn't just annoying me.

I don't think you are imagining it. And I don't think you are alone. Just look how quiet ask is these days.....

There has always been people one likes more or likes less. If it's just annoying, it's better to ignore. If it is against house rules, or *trying* to annoy, that might be another thing.

I am reminded by my favourite fridge magnet: Love your enemies, it will drive them crazy.

Mol - on the new tablet

It's not just you. I find one more annoying than the other but in either case if I'm annoyed I usually just ignore. Eventually, I don't read what they've written in the first place, because the chances are that it won't be contributing to the conversation I'm actually interested in.

People (trolls, newbies, longstanding researchers, pains in the neck, intelligent people, nice people - all of us, pick your own category) say what they say here to get a response. And they notice if they don't get one.

Annoying? Yes.

Hugely? Not to me, but then annoyance factors will vary.

It's the internet innit. smiley - shrug

I was tempted to jump in here with a prosaic explanation of the hormonal transactions that make Sho cross, but I think I'll keep my silence. smiley - biggrin

It is mildly irritating when someone answers a different question to the one that was asked. But it would never annoy me enough make me unsubscribe.

If I didn't know you better, Mu, I'd have guessed you were trying to pretend you weren't being annoying there...

Oh, it's annoying all right.

But only to a degree... I think I've got some sort of inbuilt defence mechanism. Thing is, when I read these interminable explaining posts, some switch clicks in my head, my eyes glaze over, and without even intending to I find that I've skipped over the nonsense. It's like an internal profanity filter.

(There was one poster who *really* got my goat, but he's been conspicuous by his absence for yonks and I won't name names lest I tempt fate. smiley - zen)

I don't mind people giving a reasonable answer to a different question too much.

What is really annoying is someone providing what appears to be a correct answer to the asked question, but phrased in such a complex way that I don't understand it.

To me it's hardly worth a shrug. If the conversation doesn't get back on the right track I just leave smiley - zen

(who has derailed more conversations than I like to think about, but I apologize and think I've learned from it and am not as annoying as I used to be smiley - blush)
