I really hate it when people spell the word MAGIC with a K on the end. What's that all about?

Cheers

The Apathetic

It was coined by Aleister Crowley (Born as Edward Alexander Crowley. Not quite as fearsome with that name is he?) as a way of differentiating between magic (card-tricks) and occultism.

Now though the term has been wrestled from the hands of occultists and panders to the needs of half-arsed wiccans and new-agers.

Damn those wind chimes.

No offense to genuine Wiccans, by the way. It's just the spawn of hippyish freaks becoming witches after watching too many episodes of Buffy makes me want to start throwing things.

Well, the cretins will always be there. and I think it is actually the real name of it, Majik. At least that´s what an internationally renowned expert on the occult told me.

"Buzz words" are very annoying,'pro-active', 'holistic', 'empowerment'. The phrase "buzz words" is rather annoying too.

I hope I'm not repeating anything, but I keep losing my connection and can't get through the backlog. I get really irritated by people who tell me that something is 'literally' the case when it patently isn't.

I personally think the Irish have done best with the phrase "I'm grand." The word "grand" can be used in so many ways - "I'm grand", "you're grand", "he/she/it's grand", etc.....
It goes on and on smiley - smiley

Phryne- 'Best Suppurating Actress'

A long post, as I have many grievances...
Our 'Elders and betters' (Aaargh! Awful) complain about using 'well', i.e. 'it was well weird' when this is actually an old usage. Worst, though, is anything used by the Local Paper: 'a living nightmare', the insistence on calling travellers 'gipsies', someone 'was left heartbroken after' something happened, 'the powers that be'. Even worse than saying 'One is...' (like Her Maj.) is saying 'What are people doing?' or 'If people want that...' and meaning 'What are you (plural) doing?' etc. This makes my skin curl. 'It's a lack of respect thing', or indeed any sentance involving 'thing', when you're discussing an issue. In moderation this doesn't bother me. But then you realise certain people use it all the bloody time, and you want to bite them.
At school, people who disliked you would say 'Yarrugly!' or 'I'll knockyaowwwt,' and aim feeble punches at you. This was the only place (North Warwickshire, probably a strictly local feature) I've ever heard 'blend' for 'copy', as in 'Can I blend your maths?' I am proud to say I never uttered this, but I'd really like to know how it came about.
Misplaced apostrophes! NANG!
I feel much lighter now.

Oh, and:
Anything uselessly employing the word 's**t', like 'there were all these clothes and s**t,' and, especially, 'get your s**t together'. It's totally pointless, makes the person saying it sound stupid and dim, and it's also incredibly rude. Especially when they shout it whilst you're in bed.

I agree, the use of "s**t" as you described makes the user sound thick as s**t. An odd phrase. I am training to be a smiley - nurse and have experienced a lot of excrement and much of it is anything but thick.

Kind of off-thread, but: anyone ranting on against something that they don't actually know anything about.
'It doesn't over-matter'
'For no completely good reason'
