Is ''X'' Factor healthy?

in the end these programmes only go to boost the egoes and "celebrity status" of the judges...it's purely a case of the blind leading the blind...hardly newsworthy

....Wolfie.
.
....think the trouble with these sorts of programmes in general is they don't know when to stop.
....I watched first Fame Accadamy which I enjoyed, like first X Factor, but if these are just run and run the novelty wears off and I lose interest, which is sad.

Fame Academy is a different ball game to The X Factor. The wannabees on FA eventually end up, shock horror, writing songs! That's probably why it doesn't do so well - more talent, less humiliation.

as i said b4 take it by a pinch of salt , its all i act by simon cowell , ok first of all when you sign up and go to your nearest city to get on the x factor you don't sing in front of simon and co first you get picked out by other judges ,they pick some duds and let them in to make good tv . My sons mate went to the one in edinburgh but he did not have what it takes to get past the first set of judges lol i said to him so you were not bad enough lol.

There are definitely some deluded people out there. The ones that just can't sing and know it just do it to get on TV, the ones that really think they can sing but don't have the benefit of a reverberating bathroom to boost their voices and the ones who cannot accept the fact that they are the never going to be next big thing because they think they are the bees knees.

I feel sorry for the genuine ones who want a career in singing and feel that this is the only opportunity they will ever get. For a lot of the younger ones it is the first taste of how it will be in the big bad world.

I wanted my niece, who wants a career in the performing arts, to enter - just to get the taste for auditions. She sensibly said that she'd rather do her A levels and apply for a PA course. Good on her.

ust to get the taste for auditions. She sensibly said that she'd rather do her A levels >>

yes that comes first , but where does the judges get of bringing people down by there body image etc ,people cant have the money they have to have surgery to make them look good as in sharon osbourne for one which needs to take a good look at her own family members b4 she comments about others . smiley - winkeye

I know this is hugely non PC to say, but lets be honest here - look at everyone in the charts right now. Teenie bands or singers ALL have to look like Girls Aloud, or Kylie, or (add name of your choice here)to succeed.

Unfortunatly, people with "Body Image" issues, simply (for better or worse) are not deemed "attractive" enough in this shallow image crazed century. I know the last winner of this show was - shall we say - not a Kylie lookalike. It probably helps explain why we no longer see her around as she does not match the images the kids of today see in magazines

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

Unless you are The Magic Numbers who 'don't have an issue with their weight', until Richard Bacon makes a play on words about big/fat success and they storm off in a huff smiley - laugh.

smiley - shark

over the years many larger people have managed to carve out careers in music....mama cass and leo pavarotti come to mind...eventually one of these contestants is going to top themselves...i wonder how the network will cover that

Yes, they have. Indeed in the past, there have been several that have gone on to success - but can you think of any in the last five, possibly fifteen years that have?

that's hardly a good measure of success....many artists languish for decades indeed some are not really recognised until after death....Janis Joplin E.G.

True again, but I thought we were coming from the "X" Factor side of the argument? Mama Cass and Pavarotti originated years ago when "Body Image" was not such an issue as it is today with youth..........

what bugs me more than anything else is the fact that news programmes do stories on these people i don't see that as responsible journalism

Well, they (the candidates) help TV set themselves up for the TV and journos to knock them down. Its a feeding cycle you see.........

The Groob

For a time now I've been expecting to hear of a suicide resulting from a scathing put down on this show...

...unless the bitchiest comments are actually made at another time and editing is used to give the impression the comments are made in the presence of the person. I hope this is the case. The judges aren't exactly paragons of perfect well balanced individuals are they?

I am sorry to say it again, but if these part time friday night Kareoke kings and queens really think they are talented and are dumb enough to parade on TV, then they are begging to be given a good kicking.

Real talent works hard, does the time in the pubs and clubs and it takes years of hard work to finally break into the big time.

Anyone who thinks they can just go on a TV show, do no real work and be the next Bono/Kylie is stupid
