It was but after 7780 posts we have just about exhausted them all. There has to be a limit somewhere.

That's why I started another thread called, what can we do about it, but should perhaps have been entitled, What's wrong with Tony Blair?

I think that may be what's wrong with (imho) Americans is that too many voted for Bush again. The link is that we have our own elections coming up in about five months and I wonder what we can learn from what has just happened in America. I'll try another conversation and entitled it what's wrong with Tony Blair, can be accessed from my home page.

Well consider this: No matter how much you don't like them, U.S. Presidents can only serve for 2 1/2 Terms at most.

They wouldn't.
Look, it's obvious you don't like Republicans. But, and I may be overstepping my bounds here, it seems that you think they're way more powerhungry than they really are.

I'm sure not all are and most are decent enough people but the Republican party seems to me to be controlled by exremists at the moment
The 2 term rule is a good rule, don't let anyone change it

Not to invade a conversation (just discovered this board yesterday) but can i please state for the record that YES, Republicans ARE as powerhungry as they seem... at least the new ones. The old ones were tolerable, arrogant, but tolerable. But these new ones, as well as the Americanized Neo-Christians are nothing less than frightening... America just isnt a great place to live in right now

I agree. Ever since the neocons took over, the Republicans have been the extremists.
> When it comes to the vote, people will still delude themselves that they are voting for a socialist government and perhaps this is part of the way it went in the US. voting for the idealistic idea of a party rather than the reality of the person.
I think this is very true. People vote Republican because they 'stand for values.' Never mind that the values of the Republican party seem to be 'if you can get away with it, nobody will notice.' What people perceive is that the Republicans are about upholding Christian values, while the Democrats are a bunch of paganistic socialist commie liberals. Of course this isn't true. If Jesus were alive today, he'd be a liberal Democrat.
It's all about spin, and the spin doctors on the Republican side are much better at it than the Democrats.

Why not and who would be? It seems to me that I recall that Jesus is attributed with the following words. Love thy neighbours and love thy enemies, Or liberal sounding words like that anyway.

~*~Why not and who would be?~*~
What I mean is that he's supposedly been dead for thousands of years, so how does anyone claim to know how he would react to modern-day Politics. The Bible, of course, being open to interpratation.

I think it is safe to say that given the teachings of Christ, which can be roughly assumed (which ever way you wish to interpret the new testmant,) that he would be on the side of peace and forgiveness and thus may possibly be judged as a liberal. (small l)

What ~is~ the New Testament anyway? By which I mean, is it just supposed to be an abridged version of the Old Testament?
This is ridiculous. Right?
Moth Posted Nov 24, 2004
No, not an abridged version. Old Testament equals history before Christ, New Testament about life of Christ. This is a simplification. Oddly the two often clash.
