has anyone seen that simpsons where Bart gets put in a remedial class, and he meets a kid who says very slowly,
"I'm from Canada and they think I'm slow, eh?"

REDBONES68, I tried to reply to this yesterday, but the server was playing up
I dispute very much indeed that anyone in the USA saved 'us' in WW2. My (born in England) father and his brother, did as big a share of *rse saving as any American. And I speak German now, as a matter of choice! It's over, the actions of the US military *now* are what matters, and those actions are, to me, unacceptable.

I didn't suggest that you didn't. And I can only read a post the way it reads in my head. If I don't read it right, it's the fault of the author unfortunately. Perhaps I jumped on the ball a little, but perhaps you should have written the post a little more clearly. Line breaks help.
>>>" I have several Canadian friends, and I know many Canadians. The funny thing is they were the ones who when in Quebec refuse to speak any french, not all of them though, but a fair proportion. I was actually shocked by the way some of them felt towards Quebec, as a province, and the people who live there."<<<
That's the way Canadians are. The one I share living quarters with *glares at a certain person* is particularly anti-American. Much like the English are with the Welsh, and the Scottish are with the English, and the Israeli's are with the Palestines...everyone has a certain disdain for another country or race, even casually.
But whatever. Obviously I made a mistake.

Canadians (the anglophone portion) have a dislike for Quebec because, despite being the 2nd richest province in confederation, it's at the top of the list for every gov't handout, largely because a minority of Quebecois (mainly racist idiots) decided to hold a few sovereignty referendums and kill a British diplomat.
Canadians tend to be anti-American because the American administration attempts to dictate Canadian foreign and domestic policy through economic strong-arm tactics (soft wood lumber, cattle, etc.) as though we're a protectorate, and a particulary irresponisble protectorate at that. Canadians resent this, furthermore, Canadians resent that while we are your largest trading partner and we share the longest unprotected border in the world, many Americans, including gov't leaders, fail to demonstrate even a rudimentary knowledge of Canadian history, politics or geography. Whereas the average Canadian scores higher on American history and politics tests than the average American.
In addition, Americans take exception to any assertion of Canadian independence. Your administrations have been lamenting since the late 50's that we fail to jump on your military bandwagon every time you cry "boo", failing to recognize that we are not simply a mirror of you.
And, in reference to Canadians sewing a maple leaf on their bags to identify themselves as Canadian while travelling, an American politician has recently been quoted as saying, "they're nice people, but only if they'd stop sewing those damn patches on their bags."
American exceptionalism is a myth, so grow up and realize that the rest of the world is different from you and better because of it.

allow me to quote you:
"American exceptionalism is a myth, so grow up and realize that the rest of the world is different from you and better because of it."
That's pretty rude. I know plenty of americans who don't think their exceptional, and they aren't rude like you, so hence they actually ARE better than you. Which actually means they are exceptional with respect to you, at least.
Why don't you grow up and realize that america is different from you and better because of it?
