Sergeant - right with you there about low voter turnout. In the UK it dipped below 60% at the last general election (high by American standards), and is regularly 30-40% in local and by-elections.

In Australia, I believe it is compulsory to vote, giving very high turnouts indeed (although not 100% - how does this work?) Any Aussies on this thread who can enlighten us?

Abbi, it's "penes". Ther. Who says you don't learn something new every day?

You know what gets to me Abbi...

The same folks that complain about that sort of stuff are the ones I find in my local forest copulating with strange folks. You know what Abbi.... the person that told me about condom sales was a librarian.

Something else Abbi. Do you find that libraries are well .... intimate and sensually charged places...I know I do. I love libraries!

Zoomer is only 13yrs old, bless him. He can't be held responsible.

Political correctness is not just a US condition, nor was it invented there. It seems to have grown from the Liberal tradition of many western nations. I suppose it all stems from the inherent guilt of the Judeo-Christian ethic or the Protestant desire to please.

Good point sarge. I agree 100% - the feds can't analyze all the data they have now, let alone if they started the Big Brother society.

I agree abou the responsibility of the free. I try to keep informed, and discuss with my friends. I figure maybe I can make a little dent in the apathy. Of course, I make sure to vote every year. I even voted this year!

>>George W. Bush is probably not the dumbest person we could have gotten as a president, but he's the dumbest one that had a chance of actually being elected. Even his father is fed up with some of the things George Jr. has done. <<
Speaking for myself, I find him a deeply scary guy! I am not sure he is so dumb, - it seems like a good disguise for rat cunning!

Hi, Della. It's nice to meet you.

In my calmer moments, I will allow that President Bush has *some* good qualities. But there's something about seeing him that unnerves me. It's just one of those things. (Parenthetically, I never felt that way about his father. Life is strange, isn't it? smiley - erm)

You can tell a lot about a person by observing his/her body language.
This transcends ideology. I see President Bush as someone who never does anything without being aware of how it will look. The pictures that were taken of him while campaigning were quite obviously staged.
Maybe when he's alone he does something spontaneous or unexpected....

Paul do you agree that GWs wife is an attractive woman. Further more have you noticed the family's love of K9s..I love k9s.

But Mrs Bush looks like Ms American Apple Pie to me!
I just love N American women.

I think Laura Bush is a shy woman who is doing her best to cope with the sudden exposure. I like it that the First Lady is a librarian (that's the field I work in, too smiley - smiley). I think it's hard to be a librarian in these tight-fisted times. There are libraries in my area who lost four or five staff positions this year because of the recession. That's gotta hurt. smiley - sadface

Oetzi, I see her as a bit of a Stepford wife myself, but then I haven't really noticed her a lot. As to Dubya, just his past history scares the bejeepers out of me. (Is that allowed OO?) Past closet alcoholic, no travel experience, absolutely no *real life* experience, and brought up in Texas. If he wasn't prez I'd expect him to be a postal worker looking for a clock tower and rifle with scope. smiley - sadface

dearest dave aka cpt O

Thank you for the web site. Interesting indeed.
I would never presume to tell one that I was fighting for "them" seeing as I am in no position to accuratly know if my opinions or ideals would suit the majority of the people. I firmly belive that what is right for me is not inherently what is right for somebody else. I've prevaled against that North American concept of arogance you see.
I find it hard to believe that people can't identify the difference between a self serving agenda pusher and somebody who would just like to see Harmony in action. (Dare we say transendentalist?) I for one have no desire to push my (or any other) agenda on you or others. I simply wish to be heard and to be allowed a true Free Forum for the people of my country & the world- without censorship in the name of safety. The internet may indeed be a good step toward that end.
As is with Religion, Political Agendas, Philisophical and Moral stands- there does not exist ONE thruth that humans have found. Once we can all come to terms with the fact that we don't know all the answers and that there is truly Nothing to "fear" we may then provide ourselves the freedom to disagree and communicate openly.
As a side note if one were to ask where I am from I would say Earth. Or I might say I am from Texas. Or I may be tempted to say that I don't yet know and that I can't wait to find out. Take your pick and make your judgements- just remember that in the end Harmony is my "agenda" as you put it.

P.S. As for the liberal protester- one should learn to respect other peoples space.

With Love and Respect,
Adellesmiley - hug

Reedy freddy it is an interesting area of knowledge you have! I figured a language expert would come through with the plural(no pun intended)

O.O. knowledge of the library and what happens goes beyond any experiences I have had in the librarysmiley - bigeyes My nose is always in a book when I am there, I should look around more.
*****************
I agree with the s.flipper and another who said that collecting more information was never the problem or the solution. The information on 9-11 for example was there but the translators were not.

They still need translators for the information they get.The translator at Guantanomo is under charges I believe. They did not do a thorough enough background check. Same with the recent new citizens, there were people on the Terror watch list that had not been cross checked.smiley - doh

I pity any innocent person they do get a notion to put a watch on though. I doubt you would get by unscathed.

There is also the manner in which all sorts off things are done under the name of National Security which are purely financial security for those whom already possess it. Meanwhile all the talk of Bio Terrorism does not convince the Pharmacuetical or Government agencies to push for a basic like flu imminizations. If something were to happen we would be best protected by eliminating such basics as the flu that has a way of making other conditions and Bio-happenings more deadly.

These are not neccesarily liberal points of view but common sense.
You have no protection without common sense and priorities.
