What's Wrong With Americans
E G Mel Posted Aug 20, 2002
That's almost like saying there is so much to keep up with on h2g2 I'm not going to bother looking at the rest of the web. Just because USA is big doesn't mean that it's the only thing worth knowing about, even if you do live there.

I'm sure it is but think how facinating it would be if you could compare your navel fluff to all sorts of different fluff

I didn't say it was a GOOD thing the US is so big we can't keep up-just that it is. However if I spend too much time contemplating my navel lint I shall be completely out of touch with the rest of the world...actually, the way things are going, I may consider it!

Due to the glory of globalisation and the single currency, if we just stop arseing around and join Europe hook, line and sinker, we can just stop trading with America, and boycott American goods. The dollar would plummet, we’d be snug in the euro and they’d all be starving to death within the month. Basically, do to them what they are doing to Iraq. Apparently (and I’m not sure of the validity of this, but it rings true) they consume 90% of the world’s resources, and produce 9%. That’s it. That’s all we have to do. Not that I’m advocating starving them all to death. A nuke or two would do the job quicker…

A bit extreme, nicht war Uber Red? What the American govt., is doing to Iraq is appalling, and what they talk of doing is worse, but even so... Your point about resources is correct, however.

Have you seen the size of a lot of Americans - they've got fat reserves that would outlast the 900 days, noone is going to starve them out. The only way is to hit them where it hurts, and the only things they'd notice if you withdrew it is oil and tv. And who's got all the oil? Oh it's the Arabs and the Communists, how handy.

Hate to blow your bubble, but the US aren't really relying on the EU that much. I think the trade with the EU is about as big as with Canada. And international trade isn't as much a big deal in a country as big as the US as it is in smaller countries. So, no luck there.
Tha Arabs on the other hand... If the Americans would get out of their cars and just ride to work on their bike, they could lose some weight, and cut down on resource-squandering at the same time. Excelent! <!> (hey new smileys, excelent)

My point is, if America does only produce 9% of rescources but uses 90%, then it quite clearly does rely on international trading. It's a simple point...

I don't think the numbers are that bad. But it's true that America uses more resources per dollar earned than any other country. And still Bush doesn't support energy-saving strategies. Tisk, tisk
