So who will the 13th Dr be then?
Pink Paisley Started conversation May 31, 2017
Every 3 years or so the speculation starts. And I was thinking idly (having that internal debate about a woman or a black doctor).
Meera Syal.
Don Warrington.
and then I thought.....
ED BALLS!. Noooooo!
Hmmmmm. Keith Allen?
But,
Mark Strong.
Mark Strong please.

Mark Strong has an illustrious resume as an actor. I'm sure he would make a fine doctor. I assume you mean Doctor Who?

I doubt it would be anyone that famous, but Mark Strong is so brilliant at everything that he would be a good choice. Also Rory Kinnear. Oops. Both white and male. Give me a minute, I'll come up with something.....

A quick google throws up Kris Marshall, Richard Ayoade and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as hot favourites.
I quite like the idea of Richard Ayoade, actually.

Capaldi will be such a tough act to follow, I reckon they may actually go out on a limb this time and choose a non-white doctor, or a woman doctor. Or even a non-white woman doctor.

I have absolutely loathed Capaldi. so much so I've had to stop watching.
I want a woman. Meera Sayal would be fantastic I think.

I'm only peripherally interested in Who's Dr. Who, as while I've enjoyed the show in the past, I haven't actively watched it in years (I got behind and never got the ambition to get caught up). But while I'm perfectly pleased by the choice of New Doctor, the expected backlash from the "male-rights" type crowds is just getting so tiresome.
I strongly suspect this stuff is backlash to decades of the outrageous political correctness they so rail against. And, they're not necessarily wrong about that. Back in the '90s, PC Culture went overboard as parodied in the `1994 film, PCU. http://youtu.be/Xhno9sBWI88 PC culture has a bad tendency to become extreme and deserves some resistance. But where that balance lies is the important issue.
I personally follow Wheaton's Law and feel it really defines the line where PC should lie. Don't be mean to people, especially if they can't fight back, but also don't bully people into following your particular sense of morality.
I think some of this is backlash to so called "identity politics" is rather similar to childish "see how it feels" mentality.
It's dumb, it's petty, and it's not helping anyone. And the sooner it goes away, the better.

I'm fairly careful to order my coffee in such a way that I don't hurt its feelings by asking for it to be "black." I ask for two inches of room at the top so I can add milk or cream. Maybe I should worry about hurting the metric system's feelings and ask for five centimeters of room instead. And what about cow rights? Maybe I should not specify that the extra room is for dairy products.
Such a world! Is *everything* afflicted with easily hurt feelings?

I'm happy with Sophie Whittaker.
Kris Marshall or Richard Ayoade would have been awful. Lightweights.

Sophie Whittaker? The only thing I've seen her in was "Venus,"
which snagged Peter O'Toole a nomination for best actor.
