I thought garden waste *belonged* in people's back yards, where it would be less visible.

A compost pile is a good thing to have when you are non compost mentis.

Non compost mentis is not illogical in a thread about elections smiley - tongueout

One of my State Representatives threatened to shoot another in the head after a scuffle on the House floor.

And my Governor, Greg Abbott, made a "joke" about shooting reporters, just days after a Montana congressional candidate (now elected) "body slammed" a reporter for asking a question.

Ah, yes, Montana, a state where a children's librarian could be fired for witchcraft. My brother-in-law's great-uncle was a senator from Montana, a particularly isolationist one.

Okay. Okay, okay. Yes, each state has its own Attorney General, but Baron Grim is right too. Jeff Sessions is the Attorney General for the Federal Government. This puts him in charge of things like the FBI and DEA and high-level organizations like that.

As with other such divisions, State-level AGs are ostensibly and (more-or-less) practically independent of the federal government's AG, but they can still get pushed around by 'em if the government cares enough.

Also, Sheriffs are elected by county, not by State. Electing a Sheriff seems a bit counter-intuitive, I know, but it's supposed to be another way of holding those in power accountable, so there is a certain logic to it. Unfortunately, nowadays, nobody pays much attention to a Sheriff's election campaign --- along with all the other problems inherent to republican-democracy --- so I don't know that that's really working.

I realize most of you probably don't care at this point.

You also might be puzzled by the roles Texas County Judges play. smiley - weird

If it's happening in Texas, I suspend puzzlement. That's the state where you can argue at a murder trial that the victim deserved to die. On one level it makes sense.

I'm still seeing the possibility of her not losing, but perhaps getting bitten on the bum and not getting the huge increase in her majority that she thought she was heading for. If it ends up looking pretty pointless, she will surely have her judgement questioned and not look like a strong and stable leader after all.

Pleeeeeease.

PP.

PS. I'm not offering to bite her on the bum personally. That's what we elect our representatives to do. Mine will be Peter Lilley. Of course, he may have already done this at some point, but if he has, I really don't want to know the detail.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

The UK election is, seemingly here in Cambridge at least, on a local level smiley - groan getting more and more aweful day by day, judgeing by the ever-increasing lack of content to the myriad of bin-wards directed leaflets through the door each day... every day so far they contain less and less 'What we will do is...' and more and more 'don't vote for other people, because'.... each seem to be as bad asa the other, just bad-mouthing their opposition, whilst failing to say anything concrete that they might believe in, or be claiming they oughta be elected because of... less vote for me because I'll do Z, and more and more don't vote for anyone else because... blah blahb blah, I I hate to think how many threes we've thrown away so far in junk leaflets from em al.... clearly they must believe direct mail, junk mailin g the population is of some use... but.. really?! smiley - groan I just hope we've not thrown any actual mail away in the quagmyre of political nothingness of junk they're sending out each da now... if anthing its making me less and less inclined to vote for any of them, which seems counter what they obviously think they're doing smiley - alienfrown
