Gnomon - time to move on

Incidentally, here's a page from h2g2 before the BBC took over courtesy of the way back machine:

It amuses me that I spot a typo in that within the first five words, and that 16 years later the typo is still there.

Do you mean the typo is still there in the internet archive copy or on the live h2g2 copy. If the typo you spotted was the dual spellings of mold/mould, yeah, it's still there on this site.

Oh, never mind. That one wasn't in the first 5 words.

Meanwhile, I hadn't realized there was so much scope in this topic for a discussion of American vs British Enhlish, attempting an internal link (worked okay in preview); http://h2g2.com/edited_entry/A180947

There was certainly moderation pre BBC and the first person to be banned from the site was in December 1999.

This is launch day, 28th April 1999: U34439 with the original coders. I visited the old Covent Garden office in December 2000 and saw DNA's desk, although sadly he wasn't there at the time. But he certainly was involved. U6 would be the one to ask.
