Is it too late to ask you, dear ukanians, to go and vote tomorrow, please?

Maria

Abstention is the worst option.

I´m worried for the high numbers of votes the far right is going to get, all around Europe.

The middle class and in some areas, the working class too, are voting them.

That far right is also pushing the conservative politicians and media in Europe towards a more tough and populist discourse that emulates the fascist one those groups are sending. They want back those votes, and they think that is the way.

Do you really think that it´s just a coincidence that recently the media in UK has been talking about halal food or writing about how awful those foreigners who don´t want to learn English...

Fascists are very well connected all around the continent. They are getting stronger each minute. More than they were in the 30s.

I can´t imagine that people do not care about all that.

Go and vote, please.

Hello Maria smiley - kiss

Well we have done our bit and voted today and I have swayed some people away from UKIP along the way, mostly natural conservative voters who seemed to think it would be a harmless protest vote smiley - facepalm

I'll be off to vote later, with my lodger, once he's done work for the day... William cast the first vote at his poling station, largely due to his opening the station up for the poling clerks smiley - laughsmiley - zen Hopefully we'll make it to vote a bit earlier last time... Most years/times we get there so late, there is a massive queue of all the simularly disorganised people who've left it really late, and one year we even got 'locked in' to the polling station, as par tof the queue, waiting to vote, when it reached the end of time ... so we still got to vote, which was good... smiley - weirdsmiley - alienfrown

At first glance, the subject line seemed to be about Ukrainians. Then I took a closer look and realized that there was no "r" there. smiley - doh

Unfortunately free T shirts would be considered bribery.

Excellent... the council website, have a list of candidates, for the council elections... which is utterly inaccessible/- layout makes it meaningless to me smiley - cdouble luckily the Cambridge Evening news had a good coverage of candidates smiley - zen and just discovered I get to vote for three* things, as theres a bielection in my ward smiley - weird One candidate has such a cool name... just a pity they're in a differnt ward... hmm... perhaps not the best way to chose who to vote for smiley - laughsmiley - silly hmmm... now its raining and thundering outside... so I guess it must be nearly time to go vote smiley - laugh whenever lodger reappears back from work... smiley - dohsmiley - biro

The Rs be in Somerset, paulh, because the letter is not pronounced in most of England, but it is pronounced quite strongly in Somerset and countries further southwest.

Mol - on the new tablet

Turnout was slightly up at the little rural polling station where I've worked since 2012 (so that's four elections now, one of them being the police commissioners' election).

And despite the fact that I worked a 15 hour day today I can't go to sleep, I need to see the results coming in. When we dropped off the ballot boxes I really, really wished I was working the count - that huge hall full of purposeful activity. But they won't let us do both on the same day now and they're probably right, it could easily end up being a 24 hour working day.

Actually I *am* working the count, for the euro on Sunday. And as they're verifying the ballot boxes tonight, that means we only get the exciting bit on Sunday, because the boring administrative bit has already been done. And it could be very exciting indeed this year ...

Mol

I actually made it to the polling station, a good two hours before it closed... which felt kinda weird... I'm so much mor eused to being there, about twenty minutes from the end, by which time there is often a queue or at least a gathered gaggle of simularly disorganised voters smiley - laughsmiley - weird had a little chat afterwards, with a green and a Labour candidate/councilers.... a bit astonished to find out neither knew anything about the govs plans to prevent disabled students being able to go to university, and set back equality, in that aerina a good twenty or thirty years smiley - weird well, they know about it now smiley - zensmiley - evilgrin Was a steady trickle of people in, when we were there, but always seems quiet, when its not* a general election smiley - doh

Forgot my voting this card, so I'll vote this evening. I'm neither Ukrainian nor Ukanian - here in the Republic of Ireland the European election is today, along with the local election.
