Choosing 5 people to give their names to school houses.

The houses at our school are named after Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Florence Nightingale, Emmeline Pankhurst, and Diana Spencer, who personally I feel doesn't deserve to be ranked alongside the others, and shouldn't be there. Also, why are there no scientists? They could have named a house after Stephen Hawkins, not only a towering figure, but also representing the disabled. And what about the arts? Shakespeare, perhaps?
Which five people would you choose?

Oops, just noticed, no inspirational women in there. My bad.
Substitute Eric Clapton for Debbie Harry, after all she inspired millions of schoolboys in my day.

I went to school in Newmarket. When I left, the Grammar school was disbanded and was amalgamated with the Secondary School to form a new comprehensive school. They called the houses Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. It would have been far more inspiring if they'd named them after some famous and successful Newmarket-bred horses, with glorious names such as Hyperion or Royal Palace, and I'm sure they could have come up with more really inspiring names, which might also have got them some sponsorship from the very wealthy racing community.
Many racehorses names are, of course, unsuitable. I've had fun here looking through the winners of the St Leger's and the 2000 and 1000 guineas. It wouldn't be done for a crowd of school kids to be rooting for "Saucy Sue" at an inter-house cricket match, or for the local MP to present the house prize to "Wollow".

Yours is the silliest reply so far, and yet all the choices are more sensible than Diana.

In my days we had Clive (of India) Cook (captain) Rhodes (Cecil) & Wolf (kicked the Frenchies out of Canada) these were also associated with colours Red, Blue, Yellow & Green in that order. a very Colonial selection of course.

We had royal houses: Buckingham, Sandringham, Windsor and Balmoral. Very relevant for a bog standard comprehensive
Single sex schools have it easier, I think, because there's justification for going for all women or all men for the house names.
I'll have a think, because all that comes to mind is weather presenters. Fish, Giles, McGaskill and Kirkwood - it could work.
