Is it really true that this hiatus of posting that lasts up to 5 or 6 or 7 hours
is because there are not too many people here from the American time zone?
It is 10:30 pm here Pacific Time and it's been 2 hours since anyone has posted.
This is the norm lately. And I guess it is about 6 am in the UK.

There are three time zones in America. Jwf and I are are in Eastern Standard Time, the zone furthest east [He's in Nova Scotia, and I'm in Massachusetts]. Shagbark is in Michigan, which is in the Central Standard Time zone. There are numerous active researchers in or near California, which is in the zone further west.

There sued to be some Canadian researchers in the Edmionton area. Anhaga, for instance. I haven't seen him for a long time, though. clzoomer is still around, though, but he's in the Vancouver area, which sits north of California.

There are also a number of USAian researchers in Central Standard Time, including Broelan and Hypatia (and me, of course). Some are more active than others. I'm certainly logged in and busy on h2g2 just about every evening.

You forgot Mountain time, paul. There are 4 time zones in the continental US.

I knew Norm Lately. He lived up in the Brokeback Mountains.
Maybe those in the know could post the diurnal pattern of hits to h2g2 so that we could guestimate its global attractions.

Not exactly. Nova Scotia is an hour ahead of Boston
in the Atlantic Time Zone. Even further East on the Rock
known as Newfoundland they're an additional half hour advance.
Why half an hour? Because Nfld wasn't part of Canada when this
whole idea was introduced. If you were married in Newfoundland
before 1949 you can't get divorced anywhere else in Canada.
And crossing continental Canada westward there is one more
than in the US: Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific.
It's all very complicated but then it was a Scots born Canadian
Railway Engineer (Sir Sanford Fleming)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandford_Fleming
who came up with this whole scheme.

I suspect that the real problem is the absence of Researchers across large swathes of Asia. That's our most obvious hole in terms of a global presence, I think.

Anhaga drops in rarely, he has gone mostly to FB. Edward the Bonobo has made a full switch and I pop back and forth. Left Coast represents!

good morning all - actually it is noonish.
Thanks for all the goodmornings back there
It just gets kind of clanky and hollow in here some nights.
I think when it happens again i will use this thread to find
that proverbial midnight snack or do whatever creatures do
who knock about dark houses in the middle of the night
when everyone is asleep.
In reference to the remark about Asia being not well represented here
That time zone also includes Australia and New Zealand
And Hawaii is two or three hours earlier than Pacific time
And then there is the Near East, didn't someone here used to live there?
Anyway, there is also people's sleep schedules or lack of thereof
Someone in the UK very well be most active at 3 in the morning.

Clare, I'm in California myself at the moment, and the site is pretty active if you know where to look
Don't forget h2g2 is seriously huge, the majority of users don't hang around Ask, especially those based in the States.
