A grand piano rolling down a steep street is not funny.
Even the men running down the hill after it are not funny.
The funny noises they make ARE funny .

It's the stuff made of metal or paper that you carry around in your pocket and exchange for a newspaper or a sandwich.
Oh.....
Damn.

Yes, amazing what people will give you when threatened with a knife... mind, I'm not sure a paper knife would work so well...

Laurel and Hardy made a film about two men who were trying to deliver a piano to the top floor of a building. Every time they got almost there, the piano would escape and roll back down. What was funny was the look of exasperation on the faces of Laurel and Hardy.
Normally, it isn't that funny when someone comes out on stage and plays a piano. However, in the 1940s, Gracie Allen gave a concert tour in which she would "play" the piano, while someone offstage kept hitting the wrong notes. That was probably pretty funny. a year or two later, in 1944, Gracie ran for President of the U.S. and got 40,000 votes.
Comedienne Phyllis Diller was an accomplished pianist who gave concerts with various symphony orchestras. I've always thought that you couldn't help laughing juust seieng her walk out on stage. Any actual jokes were just extra.

Normal Lovett, known to UK TV audiences as the original "Holly" in Red Dwarf, is a standup comedian. Robert Llewellyn, who as Kryten effectively replaced Holly in the cast, has written a book called "The Man in the Rubber Mask", in which he relates a tale of a Lovett performance in a comedy club. There was an atmosphere of apparent anticipation, as Lovett was apparently "going for the record" on this particular evening.
So picture it... expectant crowd, lights on the stage, Lovett walks out... http://www.normanlovett.co.uk/images/gallery/images/reddwarf12_jpg.jpg
And stands there. The applause dies down. A few giggles. Then silence. Then a laugh, then everyone laughs at the person who laughed. And the guy just stands there, hangdog expression, looking out at the audience.
Long story short, this went on for AGES. The audience were laughing, but by about five or six minutes in it's debatable at what.
Eventually, when the tension was unbearable, Lovett finally looked round at one of the front row and said "What?". It brought the house down.

Here's a thing: almost every time I try to type "Norman", I type "Normal" first, then have to backspace and correct it. And sometimes I forget. Most odd.
