>> ... the witch hunt via the media ... <<
This irks me to the core of my being. Witch hunt, witch hunt!! Why not a wizard hunt?
It's the medieval patriarchal society gone mad, that's what it is!

(at the last few posts )
and, peanut, you explained it perfectly well (well I understood it...)
I'm just concerned that it is all too easy, for acusations to be made about an individual, and especially when its involving something from many years before its hard for their to be any physical, or forensic etc., or even circumstantial evidence to back up or refute any acusations... I've personally only ever known two victums of sexual abuse/pedafilia, and one of them happens to have been a made up acusation, which resulted in someone I knew (at the time, this is decades ago now), serving a prison sentence for a chrime he didn't comitt... Of course, though, each case is differnt and needs to be examined on its merrit, but the hyperactivity of the media, and reporting of acusations etc., isn't doing anything much In my opinion, to help the situation for either the vicrum, or alleged offender

Indeed it is... I'd forgotten entirely about that... I guess there is still stuff ongoing with that in the background, but just not making the news headlines at the moment

it is not like I am not going to read the leveson report
I'm not entirely sure it tells me anything that I don't already know

I'm not sure if you can see it in the UK. He seems to drop his mask entirely. It may even be a call for help. This is only conjecture, and while I do not condone any of the things he is accused of, he can't speak for himself. As galling as I always found the man, I do rather have a tendency to look for the positive side of people.

My husband, who left the BBC 10 years ago, received a letter from them today, inviting him to participate in the enquiry.
I last worked for the BBC in 1995. I wonder if I'll get a letter.

BBC headline "Sir Cyril Smith: Former MP sexually abused boys, police say"
"Sir Cyril was never charged despite investigations in 1970, 1998, and 1999"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-20516533
So is this similar to or worse than Jimmy Saville?
Should the liberal party now be torn asunder similar to the BBC for not doing anything about it?
What about the political system itself - did Parliament now about this?
Will there now be a public enquiry? Will heads roll? Will Cyril's former house be vandalised? Will there be demands for his knight-hood to be removed

And now Stuart Hall. I was driving when I heard this one and was so gob-smacked that I said out loud to my total of NO passengers, 'What? Stuart Hall?'
And that is significantly gob-smacked.

It seems that if you are famous, and for preference dead, then you become a target for money grabbing attention seeking souls from R.
I do not condone any form of sexual abuse but if the target of the allegations can't fight back then what's the point in starting such a pathetic argument?
Saville was famous for helping kids.
At no time during his life did anybody launch an assault on his character.
He raised millions of pounds for children's hospitals.
He's also dead.
Instead of bitching and moaning about something that cannot be proved or disproved focus on other problems within society and sort those out so we can all live in a better world.
Be an individual working with others to improve your community and not a drone controlled by the media.

Sorry but you are wrong there. In that his behaviour was questioned a various points and no-one joined up the dots
It is notoriously difficult to follow through with these cases even when the person reporting their experiences is believed.
It is possible now to look back at what happened and to establish patterns of behaviour that add up to those of predatory sexual offender

Like catching the living people who were also involved?

Let's all be extremely careful about what we say about people who are still alive and who have not yet been found guilty of any crime.

He hasn't been charged with anything nor has Dave Le Travis as far as I know...currently I am taking any arrest and accusation with a large pinch of salt until charges are made.

No, Stuart Hall *has* been charged with 3 cases of sexual assault.
However, as as has been said - he has not been found guilty.
Also, is one not supposed to get anonymity when charged and/or investigated (and not yet found guilty) of a sexual offense? Why has this suddenly started becoming ignored. How can they possibly get a fair trial after being hung drawn and quartered already in the media.
After we all now *know* he's guilty because we saw him get arrested on the news last night.
