Just over three months to go until
the Dec 21st 2012 end of the whirled.
Any plans?
I'm just gonna skip my Xmas shopping.
Won't bother with a tree this year.

I never do my Xmas shopping until the 23rd or 24th, anyhow, so that should be OK....
So, why's the world meant to be ending this time?: Giant ants again? Robots taking over the world? The inevitable metier strike? computer-lead distruction of civilisation? or just more interference by the gods?
I might pop out for a pint... just to be on teh safe side...

I was planning on hoarding MREs and getting some kind of power armor or something, but I had to spend all my money on practical stuff instead. So I guess I'll just die.

My plans: I have no plans for Christmas due to being a new empty-nester. My isn't bothered so neither am I. I've already bought a 2013 calendar and I've had a Feb 2013 appointment booked since this Feb. I'd be happy to miss that though as it's with the dentist.
If anything's going to happen on apocalypse day, I just hope it's spectacular, so we go out with a bang, instead of a whimper. It was a great ride so, cling on to your , and, of course, thanks for all the

Humph.......*sulk*
I'm supposed to be going on holiday on the 22nd.....
I was really looking forward to it as well....
Mind you, looking on the bright side, I won't have to pay the balance

I hope it waits a couple of weeks myself. I break up for the Christmas holidays on the 21st & I love that holiday. Eleven days mostly to myself with nothing to do but watch bad telly, eat too much and go for long walks with the dog.
If the apocalypse could come in time for the new years diet, that would be fine.

There are several novels about the Mayan apocalypse. There's one by Enright, and also one by Dustin Thomason.
I read the one by Thomason. Here's a link to a review of the book:

It's kind of halfway between a "Da Vinci Code" format and a medical mystery puzzler like the kind Michael Crichton used to write. As 12-21-12 approaches, people begin dying of a mysterious disease that robs them of sleep. They die within a few days of sleep deprivation. As the story unfolds, it turns out that the cause is prions that have evolved. The prions are spread from human contact, and get into the body whenever anybody rubs their eyes.
Worse, the prions seem to have begun their deadly spread into Los Angeles when a Guatemalan tomb-raider unearths an ancient Mayan text and brings it to Los Angeles to sell.
There are several emergencies involved: the infection is spreading rapidly across the world. In order to track down its origins, the world's rop Mayan scholars need to translate the rare document, interpet what the ancient author is trying to say about the epidemic's origins, and then find out what can be done to devise an antidote before the death toll runs into the billions. Meanwhile, 12-21-12 keep inching closer.......

I'll either be drunk or hungover. My birthday celebrations tend to expand to include the 21st. If it does look like the world is ending I'll probably eat all my Christmas food and open my pressies.

We're not doomed, 2Legs.
The ancient Mayans didn't know any more than we do about when the world might end. They did know how to enjoy chocolate, which their counterparts across the Atlantic didn't know existed.
"Hi, there, Mr. European invader. I'll give you chocolate if you'll giveme Christianity and smallpox."
"It's a deal."

"The ancient Mayans didn't know any more than we do about when the world might end."
Possibly they knew even less as they had no apocalypse myth, they saw time as a cycle rather than a linear progression from beginning to end.

Forever entrapped, in a circle, going around and around and around, as in life, as in time, eternal and as imutable as that which lurk within the dark recesses of the idolised refrigeration unit can we expect nighthoover to return then, before the Mayan prophersised aporkolypse? It was written thus, afterall, as were, one assumes, the Mayans own profecys

It may be a mad mad world, but it is a far far madder thing I do, when I attach the lemming to the chinchillas on the side of the rotating circle of the universe, and watche the confused badgers get extremely dizzy watching them all spinning round the oversized David Bowie
