I recently (re)watched The Commitments with a German friend (we had to have the subtitles on) and she was astounded at the language!

But It really must be one of the best films out there.

I enjoyed "The Commitments," but can't remember any of the songs. I remember how some of the scenes looked, though.....

It's one of those films, I think, were you remember lines for ever and ever.

"Roide, Sally, Roide" being one of them

That's one of those films that has been, right from the moment it was released, on my "Must See" list, and I still haven't seen it. .....Actually I'm going to start a new thread...

A lot of bands have done documentaries over the years -- U2, the Commitments, The Band, Talking Heads, etc. There's a new one coming up that features a concert that Queen did about 25 years ago in Hungary. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Paulh: The Commitments is not a band documentary, it's a work of fiction, though some of the musicians involved did go on to tour as a band for a while.

You mention Talking Heads. They produced two films, both of which I love, Stop Making Sense is a straightforward film of a gig, and is the best I've ever seen. True Stories is a fictional movie, constructed around a bunch of Talking Heads songs, about a small Texan town; the whole thing being presented as a documentary narrated by David Byrne. And is mad and glorious at the same time. John Goodman is in it, and he sings, and it is a sight to behold.

I must respectfully add Spinal Tap to that short list.

I was hoping someone would mention "This is Spinal Tap." smiley - ok

Spinal Tap was so successful as a fictional band that they did some concerts. It just goes to show that when art imitates life, life sometimes finds itself imitating art. smiley - winkeye

Stop the presses! Great news!
Snoop-dog has just produced a new movie which is premiering
at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Snoop has documented his own holy mission to Jamaica to seek
out the Marley legend and the Rastamyth.

The film is called 'Reincarnation' and in it we see Snoopdoggydog
foreswear the rap for the rasta. I kid you not. He has finally
smoked enough of the holy ganja to see the true lite. No more
Doggy rap - there's a whole brave new eara of Doggy reggae.
smiley - sigh
