What to do with video tapes?

Post 1

Deb

I've had a bit of a sort out of some storage cubes, and as a result my dining table is now covererd in video tapes.

I've managed to off-load about a dozen to the one solitary respondant on Freecycle but what now? The charity shops don't want them, they can't even give them away.

So does anyone have any ideas to avoid binning them? Or even any idea what bits of them can be recycled?

I suppose they could be woven or knit somehow. Just don't ask me to do it. smiley - winkeye

There must be a way to glue them together
and make walls or shelving - there's a bit
like big flat Lego bricks.

PS: For Sale 1,000 assorted VHS tapes - many
are pre-recorded feature films but mostly old
F-1 races and Coronation St episodes from the
late 1990s early 2000s. A few Star Trek, Firefly
and Stargate episodes. No porn.

Don't worry about the lack of porn. That's what the Internet is for. smiley - winkeye

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I don't have an artistic or creative bone in my body so some kind of project is out of the question. And I'm certainly not going to spend any money on getting rid of them.

My brother did say he'd have them for an eventual bootsale, so I suppose they'll be disappearing into his shed then. People will buy anything at a car boot sale!

Thanks anyway. Please all accept smiley - cake as a thank you.

Some hold that, if you legally own media in any format, you are entitled to download that media. For such people, buying a video would be tantamount to buying a download, except it takes up more storage space.
I'm not sure if this would actually help you to sell them, but I thought it was worth mentioning, just in case.

I wish I'd known that when I was slowing replacing my video collection with DVDs!

Although I have to admit to not liking downloads much. I download the odd song from iTunes but if I want a whole album I buy it, then load it onto the iPod. I like to handle the CD insert, read the lyrics & stuff.

Funnily enough though, I find I'm not missing the physicality of books now I read from a Kindle.

When they release Tank Girl on DVD I'll consider replacing my videos.

So you're going to replace your videos in 1995?

A quick check on IMDb shows Tank Girl was released in 1995, not the DVD.

So Robyn only needs to go back to 2001.

(P.S. Amazon one-click ordering is dangerous. I now own Tank Girl on DVD and can get rid of MOST of my videos... I'm keeping my BBC Black Beauty and Jilly Cooper Riders VHS tapes though. They are classics that don't ever need to be watched, just owned smiley - smiley

My children tend to prefer VHS to DVD. When we allow them to chose something to watch, they usually go for the videos rather than DVDs. I think it's because the boxes are bigger and so the pictures on them are easier to see.
