I don't usually 'show off' but I have just looked at the new followers since last night and discovered that Sue Perkins follows the HitchHikers @h2g2_Guide. I'd followed her the day before and she followed back. As she has 159,404 people following her and she only follows 105 I thought I should share this with you - cos you're the ones who write the Guide! Yay!

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Feb 23, 2012
Ed, not all of the followers on Twitter are real people. There are lots of robot accounts who follow people - I haven't figured out why. I registered with twitter but never posted anything. Gradually over the course of a year I accumulated quite a few of these robots followers.
Presumably at some point they're going to figure out a way to blitz me with advertising.

Sue Perkins is a Gap in the Guide. She is quite famous in the UK.
I had to resort to Wiki

She appears on radio panel shoes and watches people baking cakes.

Where can I buy these radio panel shoes? The FM radio on my phone isn't particularly efficient, and I'm hoping the extra surface area will improve signal quality.
I'm a size 15, if that matters?

As to finding the real Brian Cox, he's @ProfBrianCox. For people who are famous and making sure they're not a fake account, look for the blue dot with a check mark in it. That means the person has had their account verified. However, some 'fake' accounts are some of the most entertaining ones to follow.
@MrsStevenFry
@Lord_Voldemort7
@Queen_UK
I'm @BaronGrim btw.

Oh, be sure to add @nighthoover to the list. It's an abandoned account... of course.

Never, ever, EVER tell me to follow Mrs Steven Fry.
How that bad joke has spawned a ing book deal, I'll never know. It's ridiculous.

Secretly Not Here Any More Posted Mar 6, 2012
I can't. There's a filter.
But does it not strike you as absolutely ridiculous that human society supports someone who has decided that THIS is a career?
1) Notice that Stephen Fry never shuts up on Twitter
2) Set up an account pretending to be his wife
3) Profit
Is that not embarassing? Does that not set your teeth on edge? Do you not want to slap that person so hard that they realise they're making the entire planet stupider by simply existing?
AARGH!

Nope... Doesn't bother me.
I'm not buying her books, but I find some of the tweets entertaining. That's all.
Anyway, Stephen Fry's official twitter feed got a bit boring after he was accused of being misogynistic. I stopped following.
