Mr.D he is a poet and dances....

What are you expecting?

Dancing poets are probably pretty rare. Maybe it's hard to get the respect that one expects when one can do both things so well.

My one concern (and it's a small one at that) is the potential for closing one's ears to what's going on outside while we're enjoying the warm glow of our computer monitors. When I first got a home computer in the late 1990s, my brother congratulated me, saying that I would never have to leave my house again. smiley - yikes Does it really have to be an isolating experience?

It's about communicating.

Thing is I really get ~ jwf ~'s point. Some people make themselves vulnerable by experimenting with the richness of ways of doing that...and just get clobbered for not being one dimensional.

As an artist myself I know you *have* to make yourself vulnerable, and if people around you aren't prepared to meet you in some way and consistantly *insist* on the one mode it can hurt like hell, just as in real life.

Artists take risks all the time because they *care* about humanity and its rich potential.

Without pointing the finger at anyone in particular, ~ jwf ~ , I think you can see that your haven is not quite so safe.

Incidentally, the monsters have now taken over my computer completely. It will not allow me to connect with anyone. smiley - sadface

Stuck with this tinny portable, I can't even listen to my music.

Mind you, I won't need it when I reach the end:

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Jwf... where to begin...

Both of your posts seemed to be generalisations about prevailing attitudes towards internet usage, rather than your own personal opinions about the internet and I took them as such. I meant no insult to you.

Every time I disagree with you I am told I have a 'deficiency of imagination', which is an assertation I find deeply insulting, and no amount of smiley - tongueouts will make it less so.

Good day, sir.

(Posted too soon. Footnote: that I took your posts as generalisations is possibly a perfect illustration that I find your postings awkward and disjointed and thus difficult to follow. Not everything in life is art or a poem. Internet safety is a serious issue and perhaps one not best looked at with whimsy and 'imagination'.)

This communication lark is a difficult thing...misunderstandings abound in real life...which can be compounded online.

Mr. D you have always been excellent with me...but I'm not ~ jwf ~ . I hadn't noticed problems between you...but you and he will hopefully sort things.

But Mr. D it is hard when your default is not like what others' appears to be...

It's all part of transition....(Christ how long is going on for? smiley - laugh)

(Not ignoring you Rudest Elf...why don't you drop by my music thread on my PS?)

See herein lies a problem. *I* find his posts as clear as anything and a blessed relief.

Variety is the spice of life is a favourite saying though.

And that's the thing, it's simply a matter of differing perceptions rather than any lack of imagination on my part. I have plenty of imagination, bags of the stuff. I wouldn't be able to voraciously read fantasy fiction or play RPGs without having a very good imagination. But that's contrasted with my also being a straightfoward and practical person. I don't 'do' poetry and whimsy as a standard form of communication.

>I don't 'do' poetry and whimsy as a standard form of communication.<

Ah well there's a problem then if you think ~ jwf ~ does something described as 'whimsey'. His stuff is as ballsy as it comes.

And unfortunately we have the one term 'imagination'. It is legion.

I can't stand fantasy fiction or RPG BTW....see the one word 'imagination' doesn't cut it.

I think that there is also a responsibility on both sides to reach an understanding through communication where misunderstanding and bafflement occurs

Rather than saying, just for instance, well I can't possibly expect you to understand me because I am so complicated, or arty, or alternative, or poetic and you are just a mainstream, middle class, one dimensional, dullard with no imagination.

Now some of ~jwf~ comments about Mr D's character were insulting. I don't think I misunderstood but perhaps someone can enlighten me if they think I did.

Oh don't try to close it down...they will sort it out...they are both excellent people.

Maybe a tango would be a good idea...smiley - evilgrin

(I don't follow your posts so well though Peanut...I may have got the wrong end of the stick...but I like both ~ jwf ~ and Mr. D and trust *them* to sort it out between them...smiley - run to my stereo system..It's a beautiful crystaline day here today).

Well said, Effers! Now, why isn't this thread more about *ME*? Ps Effers, I've posted some 200 links on this thread http://h2g2.com/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F19585?thread=8243829&post=109503861#p109503861 - you won't like them all, but you're bound to find something worth listening to.

A life without whimsy wouldn't be enough of a life for me. I'm writing in three different short story threads, and several poetry ones as well.

[I grew up in a small town. It seemed hopelessly boring, and I needed an escape, so I gravitated to Dr. Seuss and Doctor Dolittle and Mad Magazine. I still need to imagine other worlds to keep me somewhat sane....]

I'm not sure it's so much a case of some dancing and others not - more that some are doing The Twist while others are doing The Frug. I leave you to your own opinions on who is who.

Where are you writing Paul? Do you mean on this site or elsewhere?

I started writing poetry at 7 when we moved from the countryside...it saved me I reckon. I know exactly what you mean.
