It shall be interesting to see what we will find with the Webb Telescope.

Don't talk to me about space telescopes! They're *really* useless. It's not like we're going to any of the galaxies they discover.

Think of them as an early warning system against the Borg.

But we're already in a galaxy! Telescopes are being used to find out if there are any habitable planets in the Milky Way. No one knows what revolutionary means of space travel will be discovered some day. People in the 17th century who forecast the future didn't reckon with electricity. That was a game-changer. People in the 18th century didn't have recorded sound and cameras and automobiles. People in the 19th century might have had steam-powered computers, but nothing like the silicon chips we use now. They also could not fly through the air, even across oceans....
There may well be a game-changer in space travel, and it will suddenly make meaningful what we are discovering about space.
Or not. Maybe such a revolutionary thing won't turn up, but we don't know whether it will. I don't think it's foolish to get ready just in case....

Not that there's much we can do to prepare against hungry aliens with interstellar travel capability.

That's a good point. The thing is, they've had over four billion years in which to come here and do whatever they do. There's no sign that they've done that, unless you wish to argue that some of them *did* come here and breed, and we are their descendants....
If they can come here and bother us, I would feel safer if we were able to get away from them, hopefully because we had a safe haven lined up...

Maybe they did. I don'tknow what the Atlanteans tasted like, but the space invaders must not have enjoyed their meal, because they left the planet.

They were fattening us up. Waiting until the herd reached seven billion and then...om nom nom.

One thing I know they do on the ISS is watch Firefly. One of the astronauts brought the DVD-set up with him.

One of the Apollo-Soyuz astronauts gave a Conway Twitty tape to the Russians.
I have *no* idea why I know that.

Do they have greenhouse facilities in the Space Station so that the astronauts can grow fresh fruits and vegetables?

No. There's a danger that the giant strawberries might get out of control.
