I tell a lie Post#6 was mine.
Since it was completely true and totally relevant to the subject I will leave it to the editors to decide whether or not it should be replaced. Effers should take it as a compliment that I took time out to see what she has had to say on and around the site.
I should also point out that I operated under the jurisdiction of the BBC throught their 10 years of office and only once got repremanded and that was sorted out to the satisfaction of all parties. I have already had two posts removed with petty yikesing.

I'm leaving this thread as I feel quite disturbed by what's gone on here.

It took so long for post 6 to be removed. I would have thought someone suggesting they knew lots about you on an online forum that is supposedly confidential..would be an immediate disappearance of a post..if it was me I would immediately discipline them.

Also its now being denied by the person.

I think I'll take a small break from this place tonight.

I honestly don't remember who posted #6
but it struck me as a teasing comment, a
bit of sarcasm. If I had said to Effers
that I knew 'all I needed to know' about her
or even 'more than she did', I would have added
a smiley - winkeye smiley and she might have laughed.

Because, she would have known I was teasing.
Because, she knows me well enuff to understand that.

Without the smiley it came across as a personal attack
of the kind she has too often been subjected to so I
understand why she asked for it to be yikesed.

As to the language question I was always happy with the
unwritten rule that any posting with a forrin language
content should be accompanied by a tanslation. Some have
said we can't trust that these will be accurate translations
but I'm sure where that might be the case someone else will
spot it. Beyond the general threads I believe there is good
reason to have special section for entirely forrin language
conversations which would be all Greek (or Italian or Spanish
and of no interest) to me.

I remember because it upset me so much. Now he plays more games by denial initially.

The actual language of that post was horrible.

At least I'm starting to understand the culture here..little by little.

Oh wait! This ain't the language thread this is the
how-much-should-we-have-to-reveal-about-ourselves
thread!

And since I am posting in an alter-ego identity
I guess you can guess my feeling on that.

Truth to tell, when lurking at the Noesis threads
I was quite disturbed by some of the avatars I saw.

Egads! I mean I really didn't want to know.
Some of you are really ugly. And old. And fat.
And the wrong gender from what I had imagined.

Yeah, gender.
smiley - erm

I have always had a problem with gender anonymity.
Probably because I'm such a gent.
And age anonymity.
Because I tend to assume a certain level of
education and experience in others.

Other than that I have always enjoyed the general
anonymity of h2g2.

It really is the heart of the fun I've always had
at h2g2 that no one knows for sure who anybody is
and it takes years to form a sense of someone's identity.

I've always been honest and forthcoming about my real
name, location, age and gender. But I do enjoy not really
knowing who I'm talking to. Except when I get caught
out making gender and age assumptions and discover
the 'guy' I'm talking to is in fact a female many years
my junior and blonde to boot.

That said, I am in no way suggesting that any personal
information be required. Just hope that others will be
understanding when my assumptions and presumptions
about them are usually wrong.

smiley - cheers
~jwf~

PS: Some case could be made that gender anonymity
contributes to an androgenous and sexless wonderland
not necessarily safe for those of fixed biological
preferences. But I won't be the one to make it. I've
already been accused of misogyny and homophobia far
too often to have to restate my hetero-male bias.

I don't have a clue what jwf or hairy is on about..an absolute not a clue.

It's up to each individual here to reveal what they want.

For myself I'm myself as in real life. I can't hide much. Nature of the beast when you wear your heart on your sleeve.

But hopefully jwf and hairy can work out with each other what they are talking about...and as for lurking avatars at Noesis..man that sounds fun smiley - snork lurking Noesis? I might go off there now for a lurk..

(But as a woman and someone who has quite a deep sense of insecurity of late..well it's always there but it comes and goes..you always live with that sense of wanting to feel *safe* in your own home and secure as a person in your head as well as a person. It's so easy to start to worry about an almost existential sense of security..especially when you've visited the land of total insecurity in yourself, due to people being abusive).

And I said I was taking a little break from h2g2. I AM..til, tomorrow's Journal.

That is easily my favourite part of h2g2 of late.

It's very sane and fun to share with others..unlike this horrible thread.

Bye bye boys.

I must admit I thought post 6 was Ancient Brit. I do remember thinking this morning when I read it that it sounded a bit stalky.*

Still Incognitas, Still Chairthingy, Still lurking, Still invisible, unnoticeable, missable, unseen, just haunting h2g2

When I first signed up I posted a huge chunk all about me,birth -whenever.It was just boring so I deleted it..and I've not yet thought up anything to replace it..having guide ability would be helpful but then I suspect my ps would look like everyone else's.In it's present form it perhaps says more about me than a whole ream of typed words ever could.

I can't see how knowing where/when I was born and where I reside and what job I have can even remotely tell you who and what I am,especially as I could be lying. In fact the trick on hootoo at times is knowing who is who and who is sock puppet.

It seems the significance of the heading has been missed.
This was the minimum information that a service man taken prisoner needed to reveal.
In the context of this thread it was intended to ask whether there are details that should be made clear in order to enhance life and help understanding here on h2g2.
My own personal space is an open book and encourages people to poke around. Call it lurking, stalking or what you will. I poke around to see who it is I'm dealing with. Why write at all if you don't want people to read it.smiley - huh
My first personal page was in plain text and is recorded here :- F93527?thread=199676

"For the record before I get involved with anyone on h2g2 I more often than not check them out. It often has some bearing upon how I respond. I feel it is the ability to do this that makes h2g2 the society that it is and not just another chat line."

This seems perfectly reasonable to me. I tend to focus on the thread topic but if I find a comment that I am particularly impressed with I will check to see if there are any other threads they might be imparting their wisdom to smiley - ok.

I'm with Peanut.

There's an awful lot of information about me on this site, but I can't se any reason at all to put such things on an intro page. I'd rather people were interested in what I'm saying for its inherent interest, than because it comes from a person of a certain age/gender/occupation/ancestry/location/political stance.

Whatever h2g2 is, it isn't a dating agency. Our vital statistics are a secondary consideration.

Exactly. And in cases where those details are *relevant* to what someone is saying, it will become clear from what they say anyway.
