Oxford Street's a student ghetto nowadays, or so it'd seem. I tend to spend a lot of time around Thomas Street in what's now calling itself "The Northern Quarter" behind the Arndale, but that's rapidly disappearing up its own back passage...

I drink in the northern quarter quite a lot. actually, a heck of a lot. it really depends where you go. port st beer house is seriously beer snobby, but so am i common's alright during the day, 57 thomas st is good when it's quiet.

I was in 57 the other week - drinking lambics, eating cheese and schooling a cage-fighting Buddhist poet in the art of chess.

I smell 'Quote of the Week' there!

Not that I'm particularly aware of, but Robinsons are brewing some great stuff.

Just, I guess, the pubs I went to when Iwas a student up there, all seemed just to sell bodingtons or sam smiths at a push... I'm getting rather used to my local now in Cambridge, so anything which hasn't got a huge selection of daily changing beers just seems a limited selection I mean, they've got an entire seperate tap room, as they've not got room for al the beers on at one time to be at the bar itself, and there bottled beer list looks like a copy of a long-winded novel... Mind, I hardly went out drinking much when I lived in Manchester anyhow, cept for hootoo meets

There are several *very* good micro- breweries around Manchester now. In fact, your's truely is actually setting up a brewers co-operative
