If you have to order it yourself, then you coulkd copy and paste what you've got into excel or another spreadsheet program. Then it should have the option to order alphabetically or numerically. If you selected it all and used the program to order it, it would be much quicker than sorting by hand.

Hmm so only the Eds know the secret of that then
I'm sure that when Researchers names are put in the right hand column in entries, they are in order of when they registered.
It would make sense for me to do the 2010 list the same as Trin's.

Just a thought, Emmily...It might not be a good idea to spend too much time applying fancy formatting to your list in case that formatting doesn't work when the site is re-painted.

>>...about the guide ml when they change it...<<
Yeah. Most homepages are all over the map in the new format.
It's like moving a house on a flatbed without removing the furniture.
Especially those with multiple font sizes and blockquotes.
And all my centered or positioned smileys have gone left-justified.
I really don't wanna have to re-learn GDML to tidy up the mess.

I'm not using any fancy GuideML, just basic
I can't imagine that it will change much, as it would effect too many entries, but I've asked the Eds anyway.
The first 50 are listed A77453355
sounds like a good idea, not sure how long it's going to take me, I've done the easy ones so far. It's going to get harder, and take longer once I have to rely on h2g2 Search engine.
Taking a break now

I'm relatively new so I think I have an objective view of H2G2. That didn't sound very objective; but, what I have seen so far, the enormity of the idea that has been around for a while results in mind boggling amounts of conversations/posts that I have just skimmed the top of.
What you see or experience is what all online communities deal with, will these people be here tomorrow, will they even have access(financial/connectivity issues).
The effect to me personally is I have been very selective over the years in which "communities/forums" I will regularly converse with.
Some were as a result of a game I was playing or of an interest I have or maybe work related. Most seemed doomed to obscurity from the onset.
That being said, being subjective, there are two, perhaps three "forums" that to me, have stood the test of "time". Meaning that I use/read.Yours/Ours is one and I basically came across it this year.
The other two at the moment are Microsoft Answers and Topix. The current form of Microsoft's answer forum is actually kind of new. Technology/Progress/Fads can determine methods sometimes.
Lastly, I never really go on the internet looking for places to post my comments. It just happens sometimes. I am more of a purveyor of technology and a selective user.
...Whewwwww....

Having read the backlog now, I don't understand what all this detailed tabulation of names and dates..has to do with the OP. Is it meant to be a list of 'active personalities'? I don't understand the measurement criteria in relation to the OP. Just having posted in the last 6 months..means what exactly? other than having posted in the last 6 months. It seems a fairly meaningless excercise to me..like counting beans..it was asked, >not...or how many accounts are there that have posted in the last week,<
Yeah I reckon there's around 30 here at present that I have some rough/vague idea of their personalities.
But how we measure that overall I'm not sure. But surely we should start with everyone posting here, to say how many people they think they have a rough idea of their personalities. Then we should look to see many times each name comes up? And I presume it would be connected with how often someone posts..not just having posted at all in the last 6 months.
And no I wouldn't be interested in trying to tabulate that either..but it's interesting to discuss and speculate on.

Not sure what the list is for, but it would be more accurate to use THIS U number (u94986) as it's been active longer than the lower number and shows where I came in more accurately.

>>Bel, how are you compiling your list? Some of those might not have been added because it's been so long since they posted. Others are already on the list. I'll update soon.<<
Those I listed post to my journals, are aces, or post to the word game thread. They've all been (more or less) active during the past six months (not too sure about Jordan, but I'm sure he still lurks), and I certainly have an impression of their personalities.
Oh, and yes, Czardene seems to be Dene now.

I still don´t know the criteria to do that list. If it´s going to be a census as it seems from the last thing Emily has written, then... I find that a titanic work, labour of love say some of you, I´d say a condemn like that of Sisifus: when you think you have finished it , then back to the begining.
In the last list, where it appears the names of the researchers and the date they joined, I´ve missed Cheerful Dragon, It´s a long time I don´t see her around, but I know she joined in 1999. I remember her because she´s one of those h2 personalities I´d include in MY list. Strangely Strange is another one, I wish him the best wherever he is, he´s not being around for a... year?, most of you know about his situation. He was a good man, lovers of birds, I only can say that of him, not much of his personality, yes, but... I feel emotive right now at remembering him. Johnredbear is another one who only stayed for a few months , but his presence left an important print, I´m sure I´m not the only one who remembers him. Echoromeo... sorry, don´t know her name, she did a great job for this place, shouldn´t she be in that list?...
I think it´s gonna be a very difficult task to take a picture of the h2 community, whatever the criteria, those who were and those who are right now, posting much or not.
and... why do we need to count the people? Tiggy in his second post asked whether it was that number, about 100, good enough. Good enough for what?
Why meassuring?
So, back to the OP:
Oh, hang on, My alter ego has just told me that for my online persona is writing too much... My super-ego says Wtf, and my ego thinks that it´s time to go to bed, to which my It agrees.
Buenas noches

Just to make it easier, post only your own name, with list number and U numbers, or the names of ones you know eg:
1. U169793 2legs
This should make it easier to do the gML.
Emmily, I think if we follow Trin's page then we need to use the tag that shows the *current* user name.
I'm happy to help put in order. We have plenty of time.
Also, it's a census for now, I don't think we have to worry about how different it will be in a couple of months. It's a snapshot of now.
